BATHGATE FRIDAY NIGHT LEAGUE. (2nd Dec)
Davie Pryde 301 Doubles Championship.
The prestige's 301 doubles tournament was held in the Cross Tavern
Whitburn on Friday night.
The last eight teams making the quarter finals were.
The British Legion pairing of Bob
The Silver Fox Hall and James Cummings up against another
British Legion pairing of Brian Spier's and
Ronnie Cook at two games apiece it was anyones match.
But there has to be a winner and Bob and James took the tie by
3 games to 2.
Ronnie Cook must be wondering what he did wrong after two magnificent checkouts of 121&144
during
the nights darts.
Next quarter final saw yet another Legion team take to the ocky with Addiewell's John Kirk and
the
Pheasant Plucker from Old Deans Village Stevie Duncan up against two of the leagues committee men
Scotty Telford
of Deans Village and Danny Kirkland of Whitburn.
Stevie and John took the first and second legs before Scotty and Danny
clinched the third and fourth
legs but Stevie and John did the business in the fifth and final leg taking the match
by 3 games to 2.
Colin Maxwell a former West Lothian county star was partnering another top County player in the shape
of the ever well dressed Rab Nelson of Bo'Ness lining up against them was Big Gee MacMillan
and Whitburns
Willie Haraughty with Gee and Willie taking the match 3 games to 1.
Final quarter final line up saw East Calder's
Paul Weir and Graham Borland both county players
facing Bathgate pairing of Jimmy Wood and Rex Brady. The East Calder
pairing of
Paul and Graham progressing to the final by 3 games to 2.
Semi finals line up saw Stevie Duncan and John
Kirk play Bob Hall and James which saw Stevie and John
claim their place in the final by a winning score line of
3 games to 1.
G MacMillan and Willie Haraughty just got the better of the East Calder men Paul and Graham
by
the same score line 3 games to 1 to also claim their spot in the grand final.
So the stage was set the title on the line
and Willie and Gee were missing very little and as hard as
Stevie and John tried the doubles would not go the right
side of the wire. So though the final score read
Big G MacMillan and Willie Haraughty 4 Stevie Duncan and John Kirk
0 there was only really the width
of the wires in this match up.
Well done to G & W Champions for 2011-12 commiserations
to Stevie and John runners up.
COPPIES BAR PLAYER
A good darting buddy of mine
is playing well so I am told
showing he has lost none of his skills it saw Colin Maxwell taking out a classy 90 game
shot
in his Friday night Bathgate league match treble twenty double 15 nice shooting Mr Maxwell sir.
TWO JIMMIES!
BATHGATE FRIDAY
NIGHT LEAGUE
DOUGIE PRYDE 301 SINGLES
CHAMPIONSHIP
Was won last Friday
night by
Jimmy Wood beating the evergreen Jimmy McMillan
in the grand final.
BATHGATE FRIDAY NIGHT
At last a little bit of information starting to filter through.
On the Maximum trail it
has seen Bathgate’s Jimmy McMillan and Brian Calderwood
of the Cross Tavern in Whitburn both knocking in Maximum
180’s.
Captain Marvel from Howden John Grant fabulous 121 take out in his match.
Jimmy McMillan rock solid
18 dart game and reigning Bathgate pairs champion’s Brian Speirs & James Cumming
on target with a 20 dart
game.
BATHGATE SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP
Maximums hit by no fewer than five players
Scottish
Internationalist lady player Lynn Cowan. Former county star Jocky McLaren. Dougie Hogg.
Jim Wood and
Willie Harraughty.
Last eight saw Dougie Hogg win 2-0 from Jim Quinn. Jocky McLaren 2-0 winner over Rex Brady.
Jim
Wood 2-0 win over two times singles champion Jimmy MacMillan. Grant Lyle 2-0 win over J ure.
Dougie Hogg went down 1-3
to Jocky McLaren in the first semi final and
Jim Wood won 3-0 over league debutant Grant Lyle in the second semi final
match.
Cracking final which saw the the championship decided in the very last leg of the competition
with Jim Wood
just making it past the evergreen Jocky McLaren by the tightest of margins 3-2.
Some cracking darts thrown and would
it not be nice to see just a few of these
players pull on a county shirt next season.
Now there's a thought
to finish off with is'nt it!
CONGRATULATIONS
GO TO
FAULDHOUSE'S
GRANGE BAR
WINNING THE FRIDAY NIGHT LEAGUE TITLE
THE BATHGATE FRIDAY
NIGHT DARTS LEAGUE
With a final victory of 7 games to 2 over Coppie's Bar.
Jimmy
Wood finishing the league campaign of in style with 18+ 19 dart games
He also knocked in a classic finish which is more
often or not thought about in snooker terms
147 take out is class in anybody's language.
Also firing on all
cylinders were Dougie Hogg & Jimmy Johnstone
who knocked in a 19 dart doubles game.
BATHGATE LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
Will be decided in the next match which is the final league game of the season.
After the penultimate game it see's the Grange from Fauldhouse hold a two point advantage
over
Danny Kirklands Coppies Bar team from Armadale.
Players hitting form on Friday night were Rex Brady checking out
on 92 but not quite enough to stop him
losing by the odd leg in 3 to Jim Quinn. Also knocking in two cracking games
was Jimmy Wood
finishing his games in 17&18 darts and putting in a maximum 180 for good measure along the way.
Jimmy Johnston was also on target with a magical maximum of his own in his match.
Also showing he has lost none of
his class is one of West Lothians top county players
Jocky McLaren from Shotts chucking a cracking 16 dart game.
Here is a player the West Lothian county team badly miss we all know the counties are
a long day but
even if Jocky was to come back and lead the B team
what a confidence moral boost that would give to the players
around him!
Former television star Tam James was in on the action as well with a solid 19 dart game.
For those old
enough o remember Tam James graced the Scottish dart scene
back in the 70's & 80's with top class shooting.
Looks like the old magic is still there.
The two Jim's Quinn and Wood made no mistakes in their doubles partnership
with
two excellent 18 dart games.
Now if there is anyone out there with more information about the Friday night
Bathgate league
let me know and it will be added to the Bathagte darts page.
Always nice to give credit where credit
is due!
BATHGATE DARTS PLAYERS ON FORM
Friday
saw Billy Meikle knock in two cracking legs of darts 15+13 darters plus a 106 finish in the doubles
For Coppies Bar in
Armadale.
Jimmy Wood a nice 17 dart game for the Grange Bar in Fauldhouse. And
also on target
was Coppies Rab Nelson hitting a magical maximum 180.
This match if my maths are correct went down
the wire and it saw Coppies win
a classic darts match by the odd game in 9. Final score 5-4.
BATHGATE DOUBLES TITLE
Goe's to
none other than Brian Speir's & James Cumming from the Saltire in Carmon-dean.
Winning a very tight final in
deed against
John Kennedy and Caskey from a combined team from the Cross Keys in Whitburn and
Coppies
from Armadale by the score line of 4 games to three.
Must have been a cracker nerve tingling stuff with all seven legs
needed.Well played both doubles teams.
