Reports from some of the Exhibition nights in the county.

2011
YOU THINK IT CANT BE BEAT
Well how wrong was i!
Once again the West Calder and District Dart League held their annual
exhibition night.
This year we were very fortunate to have two players who were without a doubt
SUPERB.
Alan Chuck Norris and Andy Boulton both these players played at the Lakeside this year
and both have won many many tournaments most notable being Alan's French Open title in 2010
and Andy winning the Euoropean Open singles 2010.
On the night both these players were on top form magical maximums and some superb trick shooting
double double outs , bulls-eyes you name it they did it.
But not only did they perform fantastically well on the dartboard but they had the crowd singing and
taking part as well they had a competition for the audience now how is that for crowd participation!
And in that little competition we had the Dove Hill Highway man John Rooney winning a fabulous
£42.50 and it was fun with the crowd clapping away and booing as well as barracking was allowed in this
bit of the evening's entertainment.
And what about our very own Gabby Cabby Chris Forsyth who was M.C for the evening
did he not get everyone involved fabulous job Chris I tip my hat to you.
With Marky from the Stirrup Stane supplying the music/walk ons
we had players dancing a fine jig on the ocky.
Wish I had a video camera with me, Alan Norris and Chris Forsyth Dancing
it wont make strictly but I can think of a few other programs that people
send their video clips into that would have loved it?
Now we were also privileged to have in the audience one of Scotland's former Internationals
and captain from Ayrshire we had Alan Brown a man who has represented his country on
no fewer than 29 occasions winning more than half of them and that is some doing by-the way.
Andy's better half was also present and Kalie (not sure how to spell your name sorry)
has promised to send in photo's of the nights proceedings so look forward to having them
added to the Rougues Gallery on the web site.
Now in the past we have had the Men in Black Gary Anderson & Gary Robson who entertained us
royally last season Tony O'Shea and Darryl Fitton were our guests and let us not forget
the Bravedart himself Jamie Harvey who was here a few years back.
But this year we had two men who I believe have set a new standard for entertainment.
Should we have another exhibition night who knows.
But quite simply I don't know if last night can be bettered it was that good.
And I have been to a fair few exhibitions over the years and nothing has ever been the way
it was last night at the East Calder Pigeon Club
FANTASTIC
And once again Alan, Andy, Chris, Marky
Thank you.

THE DARRYL & TONY SHOW

And accompanied on the microphone by none other than Davie Happy Hanson
also marking the score recordings for the night was Scottish official
Mr John McCaw from Whitburn.
Up first for the local league was Gentleman Wullie Jack from the Pumpherston Jacks
and what a cheer resounded round the hall when he put the home team one up
against the Dazzler Daryl Fitton.
Second up saw Mr Tam Ritchie of the Stirrup Stane Indians unfortunately the Dazzler
was not to be denied and a DOUBLE TOP DOUBLE ONE finish soon put the score line back to 1-1.
Playing at number three for the home team saw The West Ends Renegade Willie Barrowman
take centre stage but once again the Dazzler was not missing and SINGLE ONE BULLSEYE
put that game to bed 2-1 to the Professionals.
Number four up saw a rapturous cheer go round the Doo club hall as local favourite Derek Bird
took to the ockey but unfortunately for him the Dazzler Daryl Fitton was now on fire
and with BULLSEYE SINGLE TWO DOUBLE TOPS that was that 3-1 to the visitors.
Making his way at number five for the home team saw Captain Forgetful Kirk Gordon
take to the floor only to see the Dazzler make it 4-1 to the pro's
some excellent throwing and three maximums in there for good measure it was a cracking first quarter
for the night.
Next up was World darts Federations number one player The Silver back Tony O'Shea.
Michael Conway otherwise known as the Craigshill Jacket was
the next player to feel defeat at the hands of the Professionals
score line now reading 5-1.
Which was soon to become 6-1 After Brian McIntyre from the Almond-vale Pirates went down to
the Silvebacks TWO DOUBLE TWELVES 48 check out.
But wait the rot was stopped in spectacular style when the Dove Hill Highwayen's
Pete the Norman Hastings took to the centre stage and with the help of a some what
generous caller in Happy Hanson a maximum 180 was recorded
by the home player score line now reading 6- 2 to the visitors.
Could a fight back be on the cards.
Oh yes Craig Hume sent the place into an uproar as he also put one over on the world number one
with yet another victory for the home side 6-3 and a fight back on the cards.
Unfortunately Silver-back Tony O'Shea had enough of that and Stuart Tait of the
Pumpherston Brigands who's team were very conspicuous by their absence
went down to a fabulous BULLEYE SINGLE 14 BULLSEYE
finish score line reading 7-3 at the halfway stage of the night.
DAZZLER & SILVERBACK SHOW
After the break for photo shoots and some light refreshment it saw
The West Ends Wattie Henderson come in at number 11 for the home side.
But with fifty left it saw the Dazzler take out DOUBLE SEVENTEEN DOUBLE FOUR DOUBLE FOUR
and the score was now 8-3.
Big Ron the Stirrup Stanes Quiet man was next up and with
the crowd on the edge of their seats that's those that were sitting down it saw the Craigshill man
pull one back for the West Calder league YIPPEE score now reads 8-4 to the away side.
Derek Robertson can feel a bit peeved he went down next
but when your opponent checks out on DOUBLE ONE DOUBLE ONE
on the board that was on the FLOOR underneath the match board on the wall
there is'nt much you can do! 9-4 the score on the door.
Next up saw Tommy Graham take to the firing line and what a roar was heard in all of the Calder's
when he once again gave the home side something to shout about another
game pulled back and 9-5 now the score on the door.
Matt Heaps of the Highlander's starts with a 125 and a 100
NOT the way to do it You only upset the Dazzler Daryl Fitton
and 12 sizzling darts later  it  saw a 134 GAMESHOT that was Matt put
back in his seat. 10-5 THE SCORE NOW.
Next up was Eddie Grieves and with the Dazzler now firing on all cylinders it saw a sixty left
and of coarse SINGLE TEN BULLSEYE is the only way to finish is'nt it! 11-5
and with the seventeenth game on the cards it saw Tony O'Shea the Silver-back
come back to the ocky.
Well did the M.C. Davie Happy Hanson not give our next player
semi professional player the Dove Hills Highway Man Chris the Gabby Cabby Forsyth
some stick as he was an ex P.D.C. player. And it was good night Chris
and that put the score line at 12 -5 to the visitors.
SINGLE SEVENTEEN SINGLE SEVENTEEN BULLSEYE.
Now there comes a time in everybody's darting career when your come uppance
comes! and when veteran county player Bob the Silver Fox Hall from
the Highlanders took to the stage it saw the Silver-back take a back seat double
seventeen and our Own Silver Fox had pulled one back to a cheer that lasted for many
a minute in the venue 12-6 now the standing score.
The Tower Bar Knights John Heughton a former county player with Borders
and Dumfries and Stewartry put up a gritty performance but Silver-back was not to be denied
and soon the score was 13-6.
The Ranger Paul Weir was next up and this favourite of the crowd
gave his usual solid performance but with Tony now in full flow it was soon
14-6 and the end of the normal run of games
Tony hit no maximums on the night but I lost count at his TWENTIETH X 140 score!
Daryl on the other hand recorded no fewer than 5 x 180's.
SPECIAL MENTIONS
Youth International player Arran K Edwards from Craigshill
I know young Arran does not play in our league but with his
call up to the Scottish youth team it was decided to put him forward for a match
against the Dazzler Daryl Fitton.
A good performance from Arran but by this time of night the ENGLISH professional
was not in the mood to let a SCOTTISH International get the better of him.
This young man has already won the Berwick youth championship last November
and was runner up recently in the under 18's tournament in Aberdeen and
I believe semi finalist in the under 21's!
NOW last game of the night was a special challenge match
and the only time ladies took to the floor all night
Fiona &Avril from the Doo Club Fanciers who put down as their favourite
player George Bird. They had a great match with the professionals with each of them
teaming up cant quite remember who partnered who but I do
recall that at one time the highest recorded score was
109 and it did not come from either Daryl or Tony!
Cant remember who actually won BUT does it matter
a great nights entertainment from two of the Darts Worlds best
entertainers and with one of the best M.C. in Davie Happy Hanson
taking control of the proceedings and Scottish official John McCaw keeping him right with
the scoring a fabulous night was had by all.
REVUE OF THE NIGHT!
Nice to see so many dart enthusiasts in the venue the mini bus that
came through from Musselburgh all 11 of them had a ball of a time
and certainly let there enthusiasm show cheering all night and helping promote
 a fantastic atmosphere.
For all the local players in the league who came along it sure looked like you had
a cracking night. The staff at the Doo club kept the beer flowing and as did the kitchen
with hot snacks available an excellent idea!
Money raised for charity was a very tidy £100 which was given to
Tony O'Shea. For those that saw Tony in dance mode on Saturday night
when he took part along side Bobby George, Willie Thorne and Dennis Taylor
in sports relief on national T.V.this money will go to sport relief via Tony.
BUT once again you have to ask where were some of the leagues teams
they know who they are. No one forces teams or players to come to
these exhibition nights but before everyone of these nights
is organized there are delegates meetings.
And teams are asked if they are interested and
at this juncture not one team has ever said they were not wanting these nights to
go ahead. So are they missing because they don't like the Way things are done!
If so I know that I for one would be happy to take a back seat and let someone else
arrange these matters if they want to.
One of the reasons these nights are held is not just for the league players
to have a good night out but for 'US' the West Calder League to give something
back to our Sponsors who are with out a doubt very generous in their
support of the local darts league. Quite simply we have better sponsors than
probably any county set up in Scotland.
Surely for one night a year we can support them back.
CANT WE?

2009
MEN IN BLACK EXHIBITION
Gary Anderson, Gary Robson the number 1 and number 5 ranked players in the B.D.O. Well that was until Gary Anderson decided to change codes and now has the unenviable task of starting from number 266 in the P.D.C. rankings. Should be interesting to watch his climb up those rankings!Well with M.C. for the night Davie Hanson in top form it saw a great nights entertainment unfold there many victories for the local players but special mention must go to the Pumpherston ‘Jacks’ Scott Cameron who brought the house down with a superb maximum 180 in his match against Gary Robson. The hall at the Doo club was buzzing and the local support for all the players was excellent once again every one played their part from cheering on their own players to supporting players from other teams as well just the way it should be!Also on the night Davie Hanson put up two special prizes these were tickets for two people to go and see the Former and five times world champion Raymond Van Barneveld in action along with the two Gary’s at Alloa Town Hall on the 3rd of April. Winning those very sought after tickets were Ross and Fiona and Chris and Nicki Barnet and when you consider that they have a face value of £25 each that is a nice prize to win. I will contact the winners later with the relevant information times/etc.Money raised from this raffle was £96 which will go to the McMillan Nurses which was the Christmas Singles charity as well.On the night 29 players played the M.I.B. and when the midnight hour loomed there were still over sixty people in the hall so I can honestly say I believe that every one of the 100+ spectator’s enjoyed themselves on the night.A big thank you to all the staff and committee of the Doo Club who helped make this a very entertaining night. To Fiona and Avril who sold the raffles. And of course to Kirky and Fin for helping organize this event. So after all is said and done hope to see you at the next one!Jim MJUST A LAST THOUGHT TWO OF THE GAME SHOTT'S ON THE NIGHT Gary Anderson 120 left Tops- Tops-Tops ,Gary Robson 6 left Double1 Double 1 Double1 Which one would you say was the better!Have to think about this dont know if they will catch on in a league match just yet.FEBRUARY THE 18TH 2008 VENUE THE TOWER LOUNGE CRAIGSHILL.
