WEST LOTHIAN away to BORDERS (Sunday 29th January)
Venue the Royal British Legion Kelso.
Though I suppose the title for this report should be
Six of the Best!
West Lothian once again had a depleted counties squad for the selectors to pick from. But there were enough but only just for the team captains to select their respective squad's.
Jan Leggat making a winning return in the Ladies 'B' claimed the lady of the match award with a fine 2 games to 1 victory. Unfortunately that was the counties only winner and Borders claimed the match 3 games to 1 final score line.
The men's 'B' were sent of to a resounding first match win with Graeme Bird of East Calder claiming the opening match 3 legs to 1 and setting the pace for the next five matches. Problem was it was the Borders team who upped the ante. And not until the last match on the sixth and final game did West Lothian secure another leg and that was from up and coming starr Ryann Kelly who also knocked in a maximum 180 to give the travelling support something to cheer about. Final score 5 games to 1 to the Borders. M.o.M. Graeme Bird of East Calder.
Next up the ladies 'A' team and unfortunately for the travelling band of sisters things did not get any better with some very close matches. It saw the ladies go down 6 games to 0. With Karen Whyte, Isi Kay and Jan Leggat the only ladies winning a leg each and all three going down by a scoreline of 3 games 1.

Finally we had the men's 'A' and here we had perhaps a slight chance of making amends. But before you could blink we found ourselves 4-0 down with Stuart Russell going down 0-3. Jim McMillan 1-3. Hugh Rice 1-3. Graham Boreland 0-3. But then the man from Whitburn  a man with lots of fighting spirit and a man who never knows when he is beat stepped up to the ocky. Micky Rice putting smiles back on the faces of the travelling support with a fine 3 -1 victory. The next West Lothian man up was Colin Hamilton of West Calder and battling 3-2 win saw a fight back perhaps on the cards. Stevie Scott of East Calder never really got going and a 0-3 loss putt the Borders players back on a winning track. But they must have forgotten to tell Colin Robertson about how thing were supposed to pan out and our Marshall from Uphall took the match 3-0 and the Man of the Match award as well. John Charleston was up for the county next and a great match up John missing chances at double twenty cost him though and 2-3 fighting defeat was on the score cards. Score on the door was 6-3 to the Border Reivers. Next up Jimmy Johnstone of Whitburn his opponent Scottish Internationalist Ewan Hyslop and though Jim tried Ewan's experience told out in the end and 0-3 loss and the match was up 7 games to 3 the score line stood after 10 battling rounds. Jim Mitchell then claimed his fourth straight win of the campaign with a 3-1 win and we had one more player to come. And that was the young man who has just been selected to play for the Scottish under 16 & 18's youth international team.
Arran Edwards of Craigshill  great effort but he was just shaded by the odd leg in five going down 3 games to 2.
So when all said and done a deservedly 8 games to 4 victory for the home team.

The way we were all those years ago

Local darts stars take him on. Anyone you know?

Bannockburn (Sat 26th Nov)
Well unfortunately it was not West Lothians day going out at the first hurdle it saw the Armadle Mafia
also known as Shug Rice , Mick Burke and Charlie McDonald bow out by a score line
of 3 games to nil. The Paraffin Lamp Oilers under the guises of Jackie and Grant Lyle
and an old man Mitchell not doing much beter their score on the door was a 3 games to 1 loss.
BUT the journey home was a pleasant surprise it was one of those Magical mystery tours
and with out a doubt the country side of West Lothian has never looked so good!
Well we saw plenty of it!
And if David Cameron our countries illustrious leader was eves dropping he would know that
the Lyle Clan can sort most of the countries problems out without hesitation.
To be honest if the government had heard us we would probably have been targeted by a scud missile by now
and I would not be writing this report. All that would have been left of us would have been a pall of smoke
over the Bee Craig hills .
Well I did say it was a magical mystery tour did'nt I.

WEST LOTHIAN AWAY TO RENFREWSHIRE (Saturday 19th Nov)
Scottish Inter Counties.
Well with hopes flying high after our last match where we had so many players turning up
for selection it was always on the cards that some of the counties players would make a no show.
BUT the players who did turn up showed true West Lothian fighting spirit.
The Ladies 'B' team went down by the score line of 4 games to 0 but when looking at the averages
their was nothing in this match at all with two of the losing ladies scoring higher averages than their
opponents but thats darts for you.
Then the Mens 'B' took to the stage and what a performance it was like the good old days with
Jim Quinn leading the charge a cracking 3-1 win and the first West Lothian point was secured.
But not the last Allan Henry followed up Jim's win with an excellent display of his own and a winning
score line of 3-1 as well. Wullie Bryce kept the run going with yet another fine performance and once again
a 3-1 win which meant the Mens 'B' could not be beat.
Taking his turn next for the county it saw young Ryann Kelly take to the stage chances at doubles
and a good performance but unfortunately a 0-3 loss but a good fight from this youngster
and he looks good for the future and the experience will do him the world of good.
Next up Gordon McMillan and an excellent 3-0 win and the men were flying high with the points
in the bag. Last up in sixth place was East Calder's Graeme Bird and he was hard pushed with the
home-crowd baying for their player to try and win the last game but East Calder grit and determination
were there for all to see and a superb 3 games to 2 win for the Doo Club Flyer Ace
and it was all over a Magnificent 5 games to 1 victory
for the West Lothian Mens 'B' absolutely superb.
The Ladies 'A' were up next but unfortunately only Carol Anne Speir's was able to collect a winning leg
and the Ladies went down by the score line of 0-6 always next time though.
Well the Mens 'B' had shown the way could the Mens'A' match them well with the crowd up for this match
with both lot's of supporters in full voice the match got under way Jamie Harvey recorded the first win
for the home side with a 3 -1 win over West Calder's Colin Hamilton.
Stephen Gormley then got the better of Jimmy Johnston of Whitburn by 3 games to 0 and the home crowd
were in raptures at 2-0 up. But then Bathgates Jimmy MacMillan sent the West Lothian crowd alight
a superb 3 games to 2 win and the battle was on 1-2 down but that was soon to change.
Next up Livingston's Jim Mitchell and a 3-1 win for Jim and the game was tied 2-2.
Last months man of the match Graham Borland was slightly out of sorts and a 0-3 loss and the home side
were cheering like banshees again. But then a new hero for the county of West Lothian took to the stage
in the shape and form of Livingston's Grant Lyle and who was he up against none other
than Scottish Internationalist Paul Hanveidge and what a match was played out Grant taking
out 128 & 101 game shots  to claim a very notable scalp and a magnificent 3-1 win
score on the door 3-3. And now the tension was almost to much to bear and I had to go to the bar
for some light refreshment!
Next up county captain from Armadale Shug Rice and a captains part he played a fine 3-0 win
and the West Lothian supporters were in full voice now 4-3 up looking good.
Next up saw Tam Brown a tight match and only one leg of a difference in it but Tam was on the wrong end
of it and a 2-3 loss and once again the scores were tied nothing seperating the teams 4-4.
Lakeside Gold Cup player Skippy Charleston was up next and a fabulous 3 games to 0 win and once again
the West Lothian mens team were in the ascendancy. Then for West Lothian it saw
Scottish youth Internationalist Arron Edwards take to the ocky and a cracking 3 games to 1 win
and who would have thought it West Lothian were 6 games to 4 up with two to play.
East Calders Stevie Scott tried but the treble twenties were avoiding his darts and at the end he bowed out 0-3
in legs but a fighting performance form this East Calder darter.
Well now for the final match of the day Whitburn star Micky Rice up against Davy Allan for the Renfrewshire
team and what a dart fest these two players put on.
First one way then an other and at 2-2 it was all down to the very last leg of the very last game to see who
would get the points Renfrewshire for the draw or West Lothin for the win.
Well the last leg was superb in anyones league and the winning darts went like this
60-60-60-3-60-60-60-20-20-60-miss-38 and a magnificent 12 darter for the home player
Davy Allan secured the Renfrewshire team a share of the points but what a performance from the county of
West Lothian as the last dart went in and I looked around there were so many West Lothian county players
still there you would have thought it was the start of the day and not the end.
Long time since I have seen or felt this type of atmosphere at a West Lothian match long may it continue.
And when you consider that the county of West Lothian has players playing for teams in
Lanarkshire, Edinburgh and Glasgow what would our county team be like if these players supported
their own county set up and were not helping to bolster other leagues?
But then again with this type of performance would they even be considered for the team
who knows but the mens team are certainly starting to look like a solid side now all we need
now is for Lady luck to smile our way once in a while and who knows what the future might bring!
Look forward to seeing you all soon at the next match.
Jim Mitchell

COUNTY QUALIFIERS MIXED TRIPLES (Sat 12th Nov)
Scottish qualifying rounds for the right to represent the county at Bannockburn on the 26th November
for the finals of the Scottish mixed triples.
First match up saw brother and sister pairing of Jackie and Grant Lyle with Jim Mitchell
take on Wullie Bryce, Maggie Bryce and Stewart Charnley a close encounter but it saw the team of
Jackie,Grant and Mitchell come out on top by three games to nil.
Next up saw Shug Rice with Armadale compatriot Mick Burke and Charlie McDonald take on
Ryann Kelly, La Scott and Lewis Lyle.
The more senior team of Shug,Mick and Charlie coming through unscathed by three games to nil.
To qualify  it saw East Claders Graeme Bird with his better half Denise Bird and hairy biker Stevie Scott
up against Jackie,Grant and Jim. Another close encounter but it saw the team of brother and sister
plus a friend go through by a score of three nil.
Davey Crawford, Karen Whyte and Arran Edwards did their utmost best to try and stop the team of
Shug,Mick, and Charlie but in the end the old pairing of Shug Rice, Mick Burke and Charlie McDonald
who will progress to the Scottish finals
by the tightest of score lines a battling three games to two win.
Qualifiers were Grant Lyle-Jackie Lyle- Jim Mitchell. Mick Burk-Charlie McDonald-Shug Rice.

Jackie Bradshaw
R.I.P
Former West Lothian county player from the hey days of West Lothian darts has passed away.
Jackie a former doubles partner of mine was a gentleman and a damn good dart player.
Quite simply you did not get to play in the Cameron club and for the county team if you did not
have talent and Jackie Bradshaw had that in abundance.
May I on behalf off all the dart players in the league who new Jackie send our condolences
to his family at this time of sorrow.
Jackie if your watching stick my name up on the chalkboard mate and we will have a game or two
but hopefully not to soon yet!

NEW DARTING DYNASTY IN TOWN
If one Lyle was not enough to cope with there are now four of them
lining up to get you.
Grant,Lewis,Adam and Finlay
Obviously with the strategy if the first one don't get you the next one will!

Nice to see a family all enjoying the sport long may it continue.

SUPER LEAGUE (Sat 15th Oct )
Well Breich club was the venue for the Super League 701 singles competition
and with the format being 3 x 701.
There were some excellent scoring going on but first of all the results
Quarter finals saw Uphalls John Charleston win 2-0 from Wullie Bryce of New Mains. John hitting
the only maximum 180 of the day  on his way to a 2-0 win.
Jim Mitchell of Dedridge 2-0 over Johnny Walker of Green Rigg with Jim checking 96+148 to  finish with
2 x 27 darters with a dart ave of 25.96 progress to the semi finals.
Jim Johnston had a tremendous tussle in his 2-1 win over Ryann Kelly with Jimmy scoring 2x140+2x100
in reply to Ryan's 4x100's.
Arran Edwards one of West Lothians youth Internationals came through 2-0 over Chris Hendry.
The semi finals saw Jim Mitchell just edge past John Charleston by 2-0 with the help of a
brace of 140's and a 96 check out for a 26 dart game and a dart ave of 26.96.
Jimmy Johnston of Whitburn certainly gave Arran Edwards a scare in the other semi final
taking the first leg he scored heavily in the next two legs but
2 x 27 darters  with a dart ave of 25.96 from Arran were just enough to see him through to the final.
The final saw the old and the new take to the ockey with the Youthful Arran Edwards of Uphall
and Old Man Mitchell of Dedridge playing the final over the best of 3 x 701 Old Man Mitchell was out of
the blocks fastest and finished the first game in 22 darts
but wasting no fewer than 6 darts at a double next game in 25 darts
and a cumulative dart average of 29.82 to win the title by the score of 2-0.

SCOTTISH DOUBLES QUALIFIERS (1st Oct)
Well four teams of men qualified at the Breich social club to-day to represent
West lothian in the Scottish pairs these mens teams are
Shug Rice and Micky Burke from Armadale who got past their opponents from East Calder Graeme Bird and
Carmondean's Grant Lyle. Davie Crawford of New Mains and Arran Edwards of Uphall  Put out team mates
Wullie Bryce and Dave ! also of New Mains (I think)
Stewart Russel of the land that time forgot yes the gates out of Stoneyburn were left open!
and his parter in crime Jim Quin of Greenrigg/Harthill getting past a very youthful pairing of
Lewis Lyle and Ryann Kelly by the odd leg in 5 tight game that one.
Last but not least the pairing of Skippy Charleston from Uphall and Old Man Mitchell of Dedridge
got the better of one of Whitburns top darters Micky Rice and his partner Jim Johnstone also of Whitburn.
The qualifiers will all be playing at the Bannockburn miners club on
Saturday the 22nd October 10.30-11 am registration don't be late!!!!

SCOTTISH QUALIFIERS (Saturday 28th May)
Eight men are going through to represent the county at Bannockburn in the
Scottish Masters tournament.
Players are (hope I get this right)
Grant Lyle, Colin Hamilton,Colin Robertson,Jimmy MacMillan, Aaron Edwards,
Jamie Bishop,Shuggie Rice, and ?

Small flier held after the draw for the Scottish saw Grant Lyle and Aaron Edwards play out the final
good game of darts by all accounts Grant taking the honours by three games to one with
15-16-18 dart games Aaron's winning leg also in 18 darts.

SCOTTISH SINGLES
Bannockburn (7th May) Mens draw.
West Lothian players did themselves and the county proud with some excellent dart throwing.
Youn Arron Edwards can count himself unlucky he found fife county player Alan Small in scintillating
form and Arron went out early doors score line 0-3.
Stuart Russell from Stoneyburn breezed through the first round with a comfortable 3-0 victory.
Graeme Bird of East Calder found himself up against Scotland captain Mike Veitch and the
score line of 3-0 to Mike does not do justice to the game in the first leg
Graeme had three clear darts at double 14 to go one up but in these matches
that slip up is all the top players need and Mike went through 3-0.
Mitchell went into the second round after a 3-0 win which truth be told was all about hitting
doubles his opponent did not and Jim said thanks very much.
Grant Lyle was having a cracking game and won his first match in style by a score of
three games to one and into the next round he marched as well.
Stuart Russell and Jim Mitchell were up next against each other and a good match it turned into
Mitchell one up only to see Stuart peg it back to one apiece.
Mitchell the forged ahead two games to one but back came the Stoneyburn wizard with
a tremendous 145 check out to take the match into a decider
Stuart won the bull but Mitchell managed to take the game on a 74 check out
finishing it in 15 darts final score 3-2 to Mitchell.
On board number eight Grant Lyle had the West Lothian contingent going wild taking out former
 Scottish International Alex Lister in
a great game by the score line of three games to two.
Next match up saw Mitchell up against Mark Barelli and with Mitchell starting off 140-38-100
it did not look a bad leg unfortunately Mark was on the bullseye after nine darts and went out in twelve.
Mitchell sqaundered one dart at double ten to make the match level but a costly miss
and Mark went home a convincing three games to nil victor.
But all was not lost Grant Lyle was at it again another tie breaker game and with another rock solid
performance Grant was through three games to two and into the last 16.
Next match up saw Grant take the first leg in 19 darts but at this level the standard is s--t hot
and back came his opponent to take the next three games in 19-16-17  darts
cracking match and I do believe West Lothian has a new star in the making
super stuff from Grant and well played.
Scores on the door for our players were Stuart Russell 145 game shot and an 18 darter.
Mitchell 114 take out and a 15 darter.
Grant Lyle 15+19+19 dart games.
In the final it saw Fife's Alan Small the man who put out young Arron Edwards in the first match
up against Andy Boulton and what a match it went like this.
Alan Small 23 darts. Alan Small 18 darts.Andy Boulton 17 darts. Andy Boulton 17 darts. Alan Small 17 darts.
Andy Boulton 15 darts (121 Take out) Andy Boulton 20 darts final score 4-3 to Andy Boulton.
And for those who did not come to our league exhibition earlier this season this is what you missed
Andy Boulton adding yet another open title to his 21 open victories of last season
Andy Boulton Scottish Singles Champion 2011.

SCOTTISH SINGLES QUALIFIER
Saturday 9th April
Breich Club 1.30 for 2 p.m.
Some terrific darts thrown through out the day here are a few of the reported scores on the door!
From the Paraffin Lamp Ruffnecks we had
Sugar Boy Grant Lyle staking his claim early doors with a cracking 114 game shot
and he supported that with 15&17 dart games.
From Bathgate we had Rex Brady knocking in a 17 dart game.
Graeme Bird from East Calder firing on all cylinders with 20-20-18 darters.
Jim Mitchell recording 14-16-16-19-20 dart games along with a maximum 180 and
a maximum on the treble 19's nice 171 and a 101 game shot.
Colin Hamilton from Polbeth cracking 128 take out and a 19 darter to add to his tally
for the season. The man from the land that time forgot yes the Stoneyburn wizard himself
Stuart Russell casting a spell on the red lipstick for a cracking maximum 180.
Breich's very own Jamie Bishop smashing 100 game shot plus a maximum 180 as well.
Scott Cameron also from the Paraffin Lamp Ruffnecks firing in 17-19-20 dart games and
a nice 97 take out.
But without a shadow of a doubt the fastest and best game of the day belonged
to youth internationalist from Uphall Arran Edwards with a scintallating
11 darter 140-140-121-100 game shot.
Arran also recorded a maximum 180 in an earlier game superb shooting for this young West Lothian
star of the ocky, Long may it continue.
Players making it through to the Scottish finals on the day were
From Uphall Arran 'K' Edwards. Stoneyburn's Wizard Stuart Russell.
East Calder's  Graeme Bird. From Livingston Grant Lyle.
From the Bathgate Hills Jimmy Wood and with a little bit of thievery
it saw Old Man Mitchell from Dedridge steal a 19 dart last game decider and it was a steal
considering The Killer Scott Cameron was on a double after 15 darts but unfortunately
the double did not go in and Mitchell pinched the leg in 19 darts.
Finals are on Saturday 7th May usual place
Bannockburn Miners Club
be there sharp players I believe it is a 12 noon registration.
Also a special mention to-day to some of our younger contestants
dont know all there names but one young man looking like he might give his
elders a run for their money was young Mr Lyle . Mr Lyle senior may have to watch
himself or a younger man be after his place in the teams he plays for!

AWAITING CONFORMATION
Jamie Bishop will be heading to Hull for the
World Championship play-offs.

A good final by all accounts with the match going both ways before Jamie claimed
the final set to put him on the road to Hull.
I am sure I say correctly that we all wish Jamie the very best for the Play-offs
and I'm sure he will do both himself and the county of West Lothian proud.

Two of the areas top players were going head to head yesterday
to see who would represent the county in Hull for
World championship play-offs.
Paul the Ranger Weir from East Calder and Jamie the Reverend Bishop from the Breich Bandits
were toeing the ockey but unfortunatly my lift was waiting so did not see the final!
Any one know who won?
Top shooting on the day was
Maximums by both Jamie and Paul.
Jamie 18+19 darters Paul 16 dart game.
Mitchell 14+16 darters.
Oh for a couple of doubles anyone know where they can be bought!
And can I say many thanks to Mr and Mrs Forsyth for the lift it is appreciated
bit of an awkward place to get back from is sunny Breich!

HUSBAND V WIFE
Shocking as it may seem husband beats wife !
By three games to one to take M.O.M award at first super league of the season.
Yes Paul the Ranger Weir was drawn out against top lady player his better half
Marie Weir who in the last twelve months has claimed the Ladies Summer league singles
title once and been runner up once not bad for only two attempts.
TEAM CAPTAIN
Of the Livingston select team Chris the Gabby Cabby Forsyth saw his squad
win by six games to nil with wins from
Arran Edwards , Chris Forsyth, Graham Boreland, Jamie Bishop, Paul Weir and Jim Mitchell.
Paul Weir being the M.O.M with the top average recorded.

TO BE CONTINUED!
County 301 singles competition
With 15 of the counties finest in attendance it has to be asked where were the
rest of the county players. First super league game of the season and
lots of county players missing?
County chairman Johnny Walker decided with so many of the county stars missing
a singles competition should be held in stead.
The draw reads as
Jim Woods =bye.
Stevie Brown 3-0 Johnny Walker . Grant Lyle 1-3 Jim Mitchell.
John Grant 3-2 Marc Campbell. Chris Forsyth 1-3 Jim McMillan.
Jim Quinn 3-0 L Lyle jnr. Jamie Bishop 3-0 Jim Quinn snr.
Rex Brady 3-1 Bob Hall.
SECOND ROUND.
Jim Woods 3-1 Stevie Brown. Jim Mitchell3-1 John Grant.
Jim McMillan 1- 3 Jim Quinn. Jamie Bishop 3-2 Rex Brady.
SEMI FINALS
Jim Woods 4-3 Jim Mitchell
Jim Quinn 1-4 Jamie Bishop
Final
Jim Woods 5-2 Jamie Bishop

Top Mentions on day were to best of my knowledge
Grant Lyle snr 12 darter + 79 game shot.
Jim Mitchell 11+12 darters.
John Grant 160+115 check ins with the 160 check in not telling the true story of this match
40-60-60-51 treble 18 on the wire without doubt the six darter was on, only the width of a wire
between a cracking game and a magical one!
Chris Forsyth on target with th checking in nice 152 then it all went pear shaped, ah the beauty
of darts that is why we all play. So easy at timeS then heartache?
Rex Brady fantastic 82 game-shot and the reason it was so good was simple
going for the bullseye Rex hit a single 14 on the wire he then hit the big single 18 but the single 14
was obscuring the bullseye and he had to make the dart dip beneath his flight of his first dart
and with his opponent on a double it was an absolute cracking checkout under
extreme pressure. Rex also knocked in a 11 darter as well.
Jim Woods checking inN was exemplary with 108+102+102 starts he also knocked out a nice
solid 76 game shot as well.
Now when the final statistics get to me I will fill in the rest of the figures for your perusal.
But to the young players who played to day especially to young Lewis Lyle well played entering
a competition played up on a stage for the first time and though not winning a leg he never failed
not to check in and I hear he missed a shot at the bull to win a leg as well?
cheers
Jim
Now for information these statistics will be added to the Summer League tables
reason is simply counties and opens are usually 501 games
so you will find these results added to W.C.D.D.L. pages
sorry for inconvenience
Jim

CONGRATULATIONS ARE IN ORDER
West Lothian rising star of the ocky Zak Morrison.
Will be representing West Lothian in the Youth World Masters in Hull later
this year. Zak has only been playing for roughly a year and has already shown he has the talent
and temperament to win titles taking the West Lothian Youth Singles title at the
Breich Social club in June of this year defeating Grampian youth player Bradley Weston 3-1
in the final with a 23.72 dart average. This competition was well attended by county players from
all over Scotland with a strong contingent from Grampian and Clackmannanshire making their way
to the Breich club for this event.

West Lothian Girls Tournament
Was won by Amily Davidson from Grampian who won a cracking match against another Grampian girl
Louis Duncan by the odd leg in 5 scoreline 3-2 to Amily 19.30 dart average.
Once again please take into account the committment and dedication of these youth players.
The girls tournament had players from Wales entering this competition just goes to show
how committed all these youth players are.

THE THREE J'S
Yes the three j's Jim the Mighty Quinn from Harthill.
Jamie the Reverend Bishop from Breich and Old Man Mitchell from
Dedridge represented West Lothian in the Wimmau World Masters
Play-offs in Bannockburn.
Some mixed results but a lot of effort was put in by the West Lothian players.
Jim Quinn winning his first Scottish competitive match by two sets to nil before
bowing out in the next match by the-tightest of margins two sets to one.
But not before he knocked in a 19+17 dart legs and an absolute cracking 109 game shot when
his opponent was on a double.
Jamie played really well and with scores of 45-100-100-100 you might think
you had a bit of a chance. But his young opponent from Dunbar
missed nothing atall and checked every game with his first throw
Jamie losing two sets to nil.
Mitchell managed to win three games score lines being
two nil/two one/ two nil before going down two sets to one on the way he recorded 2 x 180.
13+15+2x19 dart games and 91+101 checkouts.
But unfortunately the wheels then fell of the wagon and Mighty Mick Burke
a former West Lothian county player who now throws his arrows for
Lanarkshire was waiting in the wings and when the Old Man missed his doubles
Mick did not and Mick went into the last eight in Scotland.
He faltered in the next match but had the consolation of picking up money and a memento
for his sins. Always next year .
If we are so lucky!

MANY THANKS
To
Stuart Tait
For the Sponsorship of two brand new dart shirts
For the Gold Cup at the Lakeside this Saturday the 10th July.
Both myself and Skippy Charleston will do our utmost to wear them with pride

Skippy & the Old Man's
Excellent adventure.
This all started on a fine Scottish morning with a trip to Waverly train station thanks
to our very own Gabby Cabby Chris Forsyth who made sure I was there in plenty of time
for the 8 am train with time to spare.
Unfortunately the only disappointing moment came was when Skippy and myself made our way
to the Bar in the station only to be told alcoholic refreshments were not available until 8 am.
So no Dutch courage for journey to the
southbound journey at this station.
At the moment of leaving the weather here in Scotland was very pleasant indeed.
But as the journey southward progressed the sun was blazing from clear blue sky's so hot
that I thought
I was back in the kitchens at work.

By the time Skippy and myself arrived at the Lakeside it looked like we had done twelve rounds
with Mike Tyson
that is running away from him!Boy was it hot.
But there is always a silver lining.
There was beer on sale might need a mortgage to buy a round but it was cold and reached
the spot welcomingly.
A wee pub crawl was then the order of the day before the darts on Saturday.
Now should you call into a good old fashioned public house called the Rose and Crown DO not
expect to find any beers with names you might recognise.
So after two pints of ale it was time to move on.
Back to the darts bar at the lakeside where we had the good fortune to meet up with
dart players from Pembrokeshire.
Paul Rufus and Jonny Clayton what a cracking game of arrows
was had with these guy's.
Saturday and once again the sun was splitting the heavens.
Thank goodness darts is played indoors
as quite simply we would all have melted if it was an outdoor sport.
Singles saw me put to bed in the first round 3-0 not great at all. First leg was not at the races
second leg scored 137 to leave 24 but unfortunately big 12 and double 13 don't make 24
and my opponent made no such mistake.
Well still time to fight back maximum 180 and some decent scores saw 66 left
with my opposite number on double 8.
And then a cardinal sin was made going for the bull is not a bad shot in these circumstances
but after hitting a 25 hitting a big 14 IS and that was that there is very little room for error in these matches.
Doubles was a hard fought contest and at 1-0 up we looked to be doing o.k.
but then it was all square again but once again we took the lead only to see Paul Hogan
an England international level once again.
Unfortunately they broke our throw in the next leg
and with a quick 15 dart game we were beaten 4-2 but a good solid game with not that much
between us just one break of throw but it was enough and so ended our part in the days proceedings.
But all not doom and gloom Skippy and myself shared 17 maximum 180's playing bounce matches
against some top players good practise if nothing else.
Now one of us did have the good fortune of relieving the other one of the princely sum of .40p
during the week end after 3 hours of throwing for the bull's-eye and high scores it saw that
sum of silver change hands. But who won well you will have to guess wont you!
Some good news Ronnie Sharp from Ayrshire sent us to a cracking C.I.U club
hidden down in Frimley cheaper beer friendly people and a cracking club.
So we know here we will be heading should we ever go back to the lakeside
to play again in the Gold Cup week end.
Cheers
Jim

DARTS & CHARITY & THE POWER TAKES AN EARLY BATH!
Go hand in hand
Played on Saturday 29th May in the 32 Club Shotts there was a singles tournament

competition darts it saw former county Lady star Shelly Kearney back on
the ocky. County Captain Shug Rice along with his hirsute brother Mick Rice from Whitburn  and Armadale respectively.
Also from Armadale Lanarkshire county player Mick Burke was strutting his stuff. Breich's Jamie Bishop
was also was in attendance and he had found the bottom of part of his trousers this week?
Last week he was wearing shorts yes not a sight for the faint hearted.
Jim Ashe and Andy Fallon were there doing a fabulous job of running the event
as were Dougie Hogg who set up the boards.
Some cracking matches. Results are as follows.

now thats how darts should be played
well played to everyone involved in this excellent cause.
(Sorry if I missed any of the committee out it is not intentional but as a guest
of the 32 Club I had a grand day out.)
