STIRRUP STANE CHRISTMAS SINGLES (Mon 26th Dec)
Charity Singles Competition 3x501
This pub the Stirrup Stane once again showed
it's self to be very community spirited as once again a local charity was being represented when they played their Open
Christmas Singles competition. The players who took part came from the Stirrup Stane Indians , The Stirrup Stane Cowboy's,
Tower Bar Knights. McMillan's Highlanders, Paraffin Lamp Brigands and the Volunteer Highway Men. At the beginning
of the night the players were asked if they wanted the money to go to charity and everyone was in the affirmative. Well done
to Archie and Eddie for running this tournament and making the Charity fund bigger by a cracking £110.00 Contribution
from the darts punters (well done)
Well after some terrific tussles it saw the semi finals line up with the Tower Bar
Knights player Joe The Devil Devlin up against the Fat Controller otherwise known as Fred Hamilton of the Stirrup Stane Indians this
match saw the Stirrup Stane Indians captain Fred come away with the victory to settle him firmly into the grand final. The
second semi final saw a Highway Man and a Brigand go head to head with Pete (I am definitely not Boring) Hastings and Jim
Be Bad Mitchell fighting it out for the honour of facing Fred Hamilton in the final. This match could have gone either way
but it was Mitchell who crossed the line first to set up an Indian and Brigand encounter to battle it out for the title. With
Livingston Lion Freddy the Fat Controller Hamilton the only man so far this season to have inflicted a defeat on Be Bad Mitchell
in the Monday night league The watching crowd were ever watchful of the outcome of this match up. And with a tote being run
along side the main competition (punters had side bets on the players going through each round and who would make the final
etc) The final was the best of 5x501 and perhaps the longer format suited Jim Mitchell better the end result saw the Bad man
take the title by 3 games to 0 but Fred had his chances and both players got a resounding round of applause from the large
crowd with just about everyone in the pub watching on. But at the heart of this competition was the fact that once again darts
was raising money for a local cause and I as a player and as the chairman of the local league take my hat off to the
darters from the Stirrup Stane this is definitely a community pub where the local people and dart punters really are an intricate
part of this pubs clientele. Well done the STIRRUP STANE from Craigshill.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ONE AND ALL
I
would like to take this opportunity to say a very big thank-you to some very special people from this past year.
To say
that at the beginning of the year I was not in good health would to put it mildly would be an understatement I was ill for
the first four months of the year with pneumonia and was at one stage hospitalised. Now when you are that far gone it means
a lot to you when friends stick by you.
And I would like to take this time to say thank-you to Colin and Shaun Robertson
who visited me in hospital. I never actually spoke to them but they were there sitting at the end of the bed waiting to see
if I would wake up so I have been told and they were at the house visiting as well very much appreciated. To the dart
players who came and got me back on track, And what I mean by this is simple for a while even standing at the ocky and
trying to get the darts higher than the bullseye was very difficult indeed but two good friends in the shape of Bob Kinnon
and Matt Heeps came diligently just about every week to practise with me and to help get my confidence back which was at a
very low ebb at that time. To Fin Drummond captain of the McMillan Highlanders who still had the confidence to play me even
when I struggled to throw and stand up straight (breathing was a hard thing to do just then) thank-you . I now play for
a different team this season and a special mention go'es to Stuart Tait and Frank Begley for making me feel very welcome
and an intricate part of a new set up for me. And to my new team mates thanks for letting me join you it is very much
appreciated even if they are a dubious bunch of outlaws and Brigands (wonder if the police know where their gang hut is on
a Monday night!) To my son Lorne and good friends Chris Forsyth and Martin Deegan, who when I was down and out came to
visit and check up on me what would I have done without your help and support I don't know. So a simple thank-you will
have to do!
And to all the readers of this web site and especially to people who have taken the time to send in reports
of games played and people making headline news. Please keep it coming it is very much appreciated and without your contributions
there would not be that much to write about. So please keep the reports coming in.
THANK YOU.
Now before anyone
thinks I am going all sentimental and soft in my dotage
FORGET IT!
If in the past year any of you have won
a trophy in any of the leagues I play in I am coming back to collect them this year you have been warned?
Now that is
off my chest I would like to wish all of the readers of this site
A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR
May all your wishes and dreams come true.
CHRISTMAS SINGLES (Mon 19th Dec)
Well
done to all who turned up on the night for the Christmas charity singles held at the Doo Club East Calder. There were 55 entries
into this competition with everyone paying a whole pound £1 for there chance to win the title. This money will go to
a charity of the winners choice and the money will be made up a total of £100.00 BY THE LEAGUE. This years champion
is none other than one of East Calder's top players Graeme Bird who got the better of the defending champion Gordon Bruce
in the final by a score of 4 games to 2. Graeme was playing well all night and is a quite worthy champion congratulations
to him and commiserations to Gordon who was going to try and equal the league record of three consecutive wins in this competition
but fell just one hurdle short. Cracking darts by both players all evening and one which the 40 or so spectators who stayed
to watch gave a standing ovation to both gladiators. All we need now is for Graeme to decide which charity he would like the
monies to go to and either a cheque or cash will be given to which ever cause he decides.
Making the semi finals were
Kirk Gordon of the Highlanders and Davie Nisbet of the Highway Men.
Maximum hitters on the night were Davie Nisbet 5
x 180's +1 x 174. John Rooney from the Volunteer 2x180's. Stuart Tait of the Brigands 1x180. John Charleston
an other Highway Man in on the act with a maximum 180 as well. Big checkouts came from Davie Nisbet 111. Paul Weir of East
Calder 102. Jim Mitchell 97 take out. Chris Forsyth our resident columnist 81 finish. And Gordon Bruce 105 take out.
Fast games came via John Rooney 15+19 darters. Ross Burnside nice 19 dart game. Stuart Tait 20 dart leg. Davie Nisbet 14+16+17
dart games. John Charleston 2x17 darters. Colin Hamilton nice 20 dart leg. Paul Weir 14 dart game. Graeme Bird 17 dart game.
Chris Forsyth 20 darter.
Sure there would have been more but you need to tell me so I can get them added to the league
tables, So if you have the knowledge PLEASE share it with the rest of us. Look forward to hearing from you soon!

MURRAY BAR QUALIFIERS (Sun 18th Dec)
Some
top county players in action this week and it saw one of the area's top players from Addiewell John Kirk known as the
Addiewell Hustler take one of the positions in the final with some terrific shooting which included a maximum 180 and superb
15 darter which could have been less. The other player taking the Grand Final position was none other than Old Man Mitchell
who knocked in a 16 darter and a 81 game shot on his way to qualifying. Players unlucky to lose out were Colin Hamilton of
the Murray Bar Nomads who lost out to John Kirk lots of single twenties in his match but the trebles were avoiding him just
the width of a wire but as wee all know thats the difference between a big score and a good score!
Jamie Bishop of Breich
without a doubt the best darter in that area had a 20 dart game and a cracking two dart 94 game shot but was just one leg
short of making through to the grand finals. Other players on form were Whitburn's Micky Rice knocking a maximum 180 but
losing out early doors to Colin Hamilton in 5 leg thriller.
Notes from last week We had Jamie Bishop knocking in 17 darters
and a 80 check out but no luck at the moment for this top county player who now plays his arrows for Lanarkshire West Lothian
loss and an other counties gain!!!!
THE TWO GARY'S SHOW (Sat 17th Dec)
From
what I have been able to glean the two gary's in the shape of Gary Stone from Lanarkshire took the title at the Breich
Club on Saturday I believe it was Jim McKenna he played in the final (anyone help here!)
The other Gary making the headlines
was Gary Scott for Auld Reekie taking the singles title at the Highway Mens new home venue the Volunteer in Uphall. If my
contacts are correct it was Willie Vulzean who was the unlucky runner up on the day. Well played to all who took part in these
competitions if you can help by filling in some more information please send it in and it will be published.
Cheers and
happy darting to those of you playing over the festive period.
Jim M
REPORT JUST IN
The Candy Man Sandy
Coulter has been hitting the red-lipstick in fine style recently knocking in a maximum 180 on his way to finishing his league
match in a cracking 14 darts good shooting from the Candy Man who plays for the Paraffin Lamp Ruffnecks in Livingston. And
in the next match he was at it again with anther fabulous shot one which every player in the league would love to hit a magnificent
164 game shot via the treble twenty treble eighteen and bullseye cracking darts and his other match was finished in superb
style taking 17 darts. Top player and top scoring and finishing from this Paraffin Lamp Ruffneck. Hope the B----r dose not
draw me in the first round of the Christmas singles?
WINTER CLASSIC IV Grand
Final (Dec 16th)
Mitchell regains the title.
With the last eight men left standing all
wanting to claim this singles title there was alway's going to be some terrific arrows thrown but first of all here are
the results from the quarter finals down.
John Charleston 6- 4 Colin Kelly. Derek Penn 6-2 Paul Gaudsen. Scott Cameron
6-4 Wullie Jack .Kirk Gordon 0-6 Jim Mitchell. The semi finals was a redraw which was done by none other
than our adjudicator Mr Frank Begley and the draw made saw John Charleston play Jim Mitchell, Derek Penn play Scott Cameron.
Scores in the semi finals were Jim Mitchell 6-2 John Charleston. Derek Penn 6-4 Scott Cameron.
The final was a superb
match with the match being the best of 13 x 501 and it was not until the twelfth game that a break of serve happened and it
was enough for Old Man Mitchell to take the match by the score of 7 games to 5 with Derek making an uncharacteristic mistake
in busting himself on 68 Mitchell stepped up and checked a 115 to claim the title for 2011. Derek Penn on the night recorded
4 x 180's plus 2 x 15 darters and 18+20 dart games along with 115 and 88 check outs. Derek is simply a cracking dart
player and a real gentleman of the ocky and every week he travels through from Falkirk. I hope when the next singles league
tournament comes back round that Derek would once again come and join us. He is a credit to the sport of darts and when
he playes everyone knows they are in for a real tough time on the board long may it continue. Old Man Mitchell Knocked
in 3 x 180's plus 115-112-100-80 check outs an 11 darter and 3 x 19 dart games. Skippy Charleston a maximum 180 plus two
cracking checkouts of 112 and 105. Colin Kelly recorded 2 x 17 dart games.
Skippy Charleston must be thinking what did
he do wrong in the semi final against Mitchell nothing in the match scoring wise but Mitchell took out 112-100-80 checkouts
to lead 3-0 and then John Started 140-120 with a dart robin hooding to stop him claiming a maximum only to look at the score
board and realise he was 100 points adrift Mitchell almost was on the way to the perfect game with seven consecutive treble
twenties before wiring the treble 19 and had to settle for an 11 darter oh but what could have been!
Now I know there
will be some statistics missed out so if any of the players can help fill in the gaps please drop me an email and they will
be added.
On a personal note can I say a big thank you to all the players who took part in this league. And to Diane
of the Paraffin Lamp management team for her support in Bolstering the prize fund. And let us not forget the ladies and gentlemen
who worked tirelessly behind the bar keeping our throats quenched with good ale.
Many thanks to all of you for a cracking
tournament hopefully see you again soon.
Oh and let us not forget our lady player she certainly shook a couple of the
more seasoned men up. Jillian O'Neil we salute you and hope to see you at the next competition!
Oh and by the way
I must apologise for forgetting your trophy but it will be coming your way soon promise.
Jim Mitchell Winter Classic
Organiser.
MONDAY NIGHT AT THE DARTS (Mon 12th Dec)
Almondvale Pirates hosted the Deans team from McMillan's Bar in old Deans Village otherwise known
as the Highlanders. John Tannock was up first to the ocky playing against the leagues most senior player Bob the Silver
Fox Hall from Livingston Village, John took this match by a score line of 2 games to 0 to put the first point into the Pirates
treasure chest. Big Davie Smith was up against a man in form at the moment John the Addiewell Hustler Kirk who took the game
and put the match back onto an even keel 1 apiece. The Pheasant Plucker Stevie Duncan then took to the stage but he was up
against a man who has a found a new zeal for the game in the shape of Marvelous Matt Heep's who with his new darts came
a way with a fine 2 games to 0 win and the visitors were ahead. Scott Begley then came to the ocky and his opponent was none
other than the new man on the block for McMillan's Bob S.I.I.G. Kinnon a man who's now infamous battle cry is
heard once again at the ocky after a while away from main stream darts but Smack it in Gob Kinnon had to settle for second
place in this match up as Big Scott Begley took the honours 2 games to 0. Pirates were back on tack! Unfortunately it went
somewhat awry from there on in with Derek Carmichael going down to Lorne the Pancho Man Mitchell in an a hotly contested
match the visitors once again in front 3 games to 2. Scott Bryson tried to get the Pirates back onto an even keel but the
Stylish one Matt Purdie was in great form and it saw Matt take the game 2 games to 0. So down to the nitty gritty part
of the match with all the doubles needed to secure a win it saw John Tannock and Stevie Duncan close the points difference
to just 1 with a fine win over Matt Heeps and a man who has been there and worn the T-Shirt Scotty Telford.
Scott Begley and Derek Carmichael went head to head against Lorne Mitchell and Bob Kinnon but the Highlanders pairing of Bob
and Lorne took the match and the win was secured at 5 games to 3 for the Highlanders. Davy Smith and Chris then
took the last match against John Kirk and Matt Purdie so the final score was 5 games to 4 in favour of the travelling
McMillan's Highlanders and two very valuable points in the race to the top of the league table to McMillan's. Davy
and Chris stepped up to keep score line respectable winning 2-0 against Matt Purdie and Joh Kirek but they knew points were
in the bag 5-4 score in the end to the Highlanders.
Tower Bar Knights had
the welcome mat out for their opponents the league champions the Dovehill Highway Men or is that now the Volunteer Highway
Men as I do believe the Dovehill will be closing its doors soon if it has not already happened!Well you don't win league
championships by not playing well and from what I have managed to glean the visiting Highway Men took this match by 7 games
to 2 with the Highway Men winning 6 -0 in the singles. The Tower did rally in the doubles securing the first and second doubles
games but I am afraid to little to late! Score on the door 7 games to 2 for the Highway Men. Games of note Davy Nisbet 19darter and a maximum 180. The Bookies favourite John Rooney 18 &
20 darts and 108 checkout. John Skippy Charleston 19 darts. And let us not forget the Marshall Colin Robertson finishing
off in style with 95 & 131 check outs.
John Bruton's Murray Bar Nomads did a job on the Harrysmuir Warriors
with a cracking 7 games to 2 win and this keeps the Nomads right up there near the top of the league . Looks like this is
going to be a very tight league this season with so many teams playing extremely well.
Craigshill Cowboys under
the leadership of the Stirrup Stane Ramrod Archie were hosts to the Paraffin Lamp Brigands. The Brigands secured the two winning
points with a 9 games to 0 victory . I must say the Stirrup Stane hospitality is without second to none in the league the
half time pies are a thing of the past. This weeks menu was a huge witches cauldron of homemade potato soup and following
that course you had Curry and Rice and if that did not take your fancy there were some very tempting square sausage in freshly
buttered rolls and freshly cooked and golden brown crispy chips. Now that is hospitality for you. You know if the Stirrup
Stane in Craigshill can look after its darts team like this the question has to be asked why cant other establishments. I
have always said it we spend our money in the pub so if the publican/landlord looks after us we will probably spend more in
his or hers establishment a two way thing and it certainly seems to work in Craigshill. And yes I realise there are some players
who dont spend any money or very little at all, but there are some of us who do and I really apreciate the hard work this
pub landlord is doing in making his sportsmen and women feel welcome long may it continue.
HIT-MAN AND THE (Saturday 10th Dec)
Yes
the two players qualifying for the Murray Bar singles competition are The Hit-man Wullie Jack and
Gordon THE Bruce.
Who will both take their places in the Grand Final.
BATHGATE LEAGUE (Friday 9th Dec)
Cross
Tavern from Whitburn were in scintillating form when they played the Royal British Legion from Bathgate. The score from this
match up was a very clinical 8 games to 1 victory for the men from Whitburn. Only score of note for the Legion players was
a nice maximum 0n the treble ninteen's from Stevie Duncan of Deans with a classy 171 score.
WINTER CLASSIC LEAGUE PENULTIMATE WEEK (Friday 9th Dec)
With the last matches played we now know who has made the grand final. The top four players in each league will now
contest for the money rounds. Making it through were John Charleston,Derek Penn, Wullie Jack, Kirk Gordon from the Christmas
Tree Stars League. From the Mistletoe Bunch we have joining them Jim Mitchell, Scott Cameron,Paul Gaudsen and Colin
Kelly.
The players not making the finals night do not go away empty handed they each receive a consolation prize consisting
of John Grant btl Morgans Spiced,Craig McDonald btl Vodka,Matt Heeps btle Vodka, Frank Crook case Tenant's Lager, Stevie
Stalker btl Vodka, Jillian O'Neil case of Budweiser66, Frank Begley btl Vodka, Lorne Mitchell case John Smiths,Stuart
Bowes btl Vodka,Paul Cairney btl Vodka, Not bad when you consider you have paid £15 entry into this league you get to
play 72 legs of 501 and it only takes aprox two months to play the league from start to finish. Now the players in the final
are playing for quarter finalists 4 x £30, Semi finalists 2x £50, Second place £90, Champion £130
and a dart shirt embroidered with Winter Classic IV Champion 2011and your choice of colour. Not bad for a wee local
competition well my opinion only of course other players may think differently!
W.C.D.D.L. Delegates Meeting (Dec 7th )
The
monthly delegates meeting was held in the Stirrup Stane in Craigshill. Most teams in the league were present but we do have
one or two absentees in the shape of East Calder's Doo Club 'A' and 'B' teams, along with the Almondvale
Pirates and the Murray Bar Nomads long with two outstanding fines for non attendance at the last meeting from the Stirrup
Stane and the Murray Bar Strollers. We can safely say the leagues coffers will be glad of the fines!. On the night teams put
their names forward for the exhibition night and so far we have the Volunteer Highway Men 4 tickets, McMillan Highlanders
8 tickets, Tower Knights 4 tickets, Murray Bar Y.T. 4 tickets, Stirrup Stane Indians 14 tickets, Stirrup Stane Cowboys 17
tickets, Harrysmuir Warriors 10 tickets,Doo Club A & B 20 tickets,Paraffin Lamp Ruffnecks 5 tickets,Kyle Gilmour of the
Murray Bar Nomads 4 tickets, John Grant 2 tickets, Scott Begley 2 Tickets and Big Davy Smith 1 ticket, Giving us a total
of 95 tickets gone and with only a capacity of 120 in total for the hall. I would ask any other team that wants
tickets to let the committee know as soon as possible.
Tickets for this exhibition are priced at £7.50 and when
you realise the dart players who are coming you know this is a bargain so please if you are looking for tickets let one of
the committee know A.S..A.P. (Jim Mitchell, Fin Drummond, John Kirk, your committee members).
Also passed was that all
dart teams in the league would receive a brand new dart board a P.D.C. pro board the league has decided to pay for these boards
and they will be available to be uplifted at the next competition the Christmas singles a week on Monday the 19th December.
Remember though these boards are for league games only and it is up to the teams to look after them. The reason for this is
simple every league match will be played on the same board which ever team you are playing so there should be no discrepancy
in the boards condition!
Next meeting will be on the first Wednesday of February there will be no meeting in
January the meeting will be held in the Tower Bar so please if you have outstanding monies to be paid to the league bring
it and you will receive a nice receipt from your treasurer thats me!
Look forward to seeing you all there?
MONDAY
NIGHT REPORT (5th Dec)
W.C.D.D.L.
MURRAY BAR 'C' VERSUS MURRAY BAR 'A'
John Bruton had
his Nomads up for this Derby tie straight from the start playing against last seasons league runners up the Murray Bar Strollers
under the leadership of Alan Wilson known in darting terms as ZOKO. The Nomads went to it with gusto claiming five straight
games without dropping a single leg. Give Alan Wilson's Strollers credit though they took three of the next four games
but the damage was done and the Murray Bar Nomads are tucked in near the top of the league table just waiting for some one
to slip up! Top game came from a man in form who go'es by the Monica of the Polbeth Hit-man yes none other than Davie
Aitken knocking in a solid 20 dart game and a excellent 104 check out. Maximum 180's were kept in the family with the
Ducket's Davie and Disco claiming one apiece on the night this was Disco Aiken's third of the season and Davie's
nineteenth since records have been kept (check out maximum league tables etc). But the most important thing was that the Nomads
are right up there at the top end of the league and when you look at this years league table you will see how important every
league match is. Looks like this season though not half way through yet will probably go right down to the very last match
of the season . Hope I am right it's exciting stuff is'nt it!
DOVEHILL HIGHWAY MEN HOME TO STIRRUP STANE COWBOY'S
Dovehill Highway Men continue their good run of win’s with a 9 games to 0 win over the Stirrup Stane
Cowboys from Craigshill. Top games coming from the Highway Men with Davie Nisbet back on the maximum 180 trail with his third
maximum of the season. Also firing out big salvos was John Charleston otherwise known as Skippy with a cracking 16 dart game.
The Marshall Colin Robertson was also on target with a nice rock solid 20 dart game. But it was in the doubles that Colin
Robertson and Davy Nisbet hit the ocky running going out in two excellent games of darts using 17 and 18 darts to finish their
match in style.
STIRRUP STANE INDIANS HOME TO ALMONDVALE PIRATES
Almondvale Pirates were back on the crest of a wave with an excellent 6 games to 3 win over the Craigshill
Indians from the Stirrup Stane who are under the leadership of Fred the Fat Controller Hamilton. Big Davie Smith got the Pirates
of to a good start with 2 games to 1 min over another Big Man Ronnie Marshall to put the Pirates one game up. But the Indians
hit back with Old stager Rab Main getting the better of the Pheasant Plucker Stevie Duncan by 2 games to 0 so back on even
keel with the match nicely poised at 1-1. John Tannock then just got the better of one of the leagues elder statesmen Mr Tam
Ritchie in a cracking encounter with John taking the game 2 games to 1. Chris Cameron went down 2 games
to 0 against Chick Whitelaw to once again even up the score board and there was still nothing between the teams. East Calder’s
Colin Taffy Cooper put in a virtuoso performance in beating Derek Carmichael and for the first time in
the match the Stirrup Stane Indians were ahead 3 games to 2. Down to the anchor men and it saw Big Scott Begley and a man
who has been playing very well recently Fred Hamilton take to the ocky Scott annexed the first game with an excellent 214
take out in 5 darts via 140 and 74 finish. A mix up in the scores on the board in the next game saw Scott check out on double
tops to take the match after Fred had thrown his darts what I can gather thought was that it should have been 36 left but
Fred had already thrown his arrows and the board had not been changed so Scott stepped up and hit what was on the board and
the match was tied at 3 games apiece and all to play for in the doubles. John Tannock and new player on the ocky Scott Bryson
took the first double for the visitors. So the next match was vital. But the hard as the home team tried the night belonged
to the visiting team of the Almondvale Pirates who once again sailed serenely off into the wild snow clouded West Lothian
night with the points in the treasure chest under the watchful eye of Captain Ahab alias Alan Robinson.
MCMILLANS
HIGHLANDERS HOST HARRYSMUIR WARRIORS
The
McMillan Highlanders from Deans Village claimed the match against the Harrysmuir Warriors with a fine
6 games to 3 victory.
Top shots from this match up came from two of the leagues older statesmen with Bob Hall knocking in a 18 dart game and recording
a 174 score. Going just a wee bit better was Bob Kinnon with a maximum 180 in his match as was the Addiewell Hustler
John Kirk with a maximum of his own nicely done gentlemen. Matt Heeps had the highest finish going
out on a 90 game shot.
PARAFFIN LAMP BRIGANDS HOST DOO CLUB FANCIERS
Paraffin Lamp Brigands hosted the East Calder Doo
Club Fanciers at the Paraffin Lamp and it saw the home side take a victory with a 9 games to 0 score. But truth be told the
Fanciers had a few chances to take some legs of the Brigands but double trouble cost them dear. Some statistics from this
match were John Two Hands Hanlon from Deepest Darkest Mid Calder on target with a superb 15 darter. John was also on target
with his partner in the pairs with a nice 18 dart game culminating in an 88 game shot. Marvelous Lee Holland on target
with a clinical 87 checkout. Gordon THE Bruce in on the action with a 120 finish and a 20 darter as well.
MURRAY BAR 'B' VERSUS TOWER KNIGHTS
Murray
Y.T. were very unlucky not to record their first ever win in the league going 4 games to 2 up against the Tower Knights. But
unfortunately for them the Knights rallied strongly and took the next 3 games to take the match 5 games to 4. Ian Stewart
of the Tower Knights recorded two maximum 180's in his match along with a 20 dart game. And getting on the score sheet
it saw Dean Hamilton checking a nice 86 game shot for the Murray Y.T.
DOO CLUB FLYER'S AT HOME TO PARAFFIN LAMP RUFFNECK'S
Well this match had it all big check outs and lots of maximums. Players hitting the top checks
were Graham Borland with a cracking 113 finish quickly followed by Jim Quinn with a 112 finish good checking from both these
county players. Maximum's were recorded by Paul Weir hitting his sixth of the season so far, The Candy Man Sandy
Coulter on target on the red lipstick, And another top county player Graeme Bird with a maximum 180 to add to his tally
as well. Final score for this match up was a win to the home side which saw the Doo Club Flyer's come away with a 6 games
to 3 victory over the traveling Ruffneck's.
MURRAY BAR OPEN SINGLES QUALIFIERS
Saturday
(2nd Dec)
Martin Deegan of Dechmont and Uphalls Colin Robertson taking this weeks qualifying spots
for the Grand
Final.
Some top scores coming from Chris Forsyth 20 darter.Ian Mowberry nice 17 dart game.
W.C.D.D.L.
MATCHPLAY DOUBLES (Mon 28th Nov)
Well a good turnout for the leagues matchplay doubles in total 35 teams registered on the night.
Now this is
a doubles game with a difference the format is both players will play their opposition in
four singles games and
if it is tied at two games each a final game of doubles will be played to
determine the winner so baicaly it is the
best of 5x501
first to three wins the game.
Now some terrific match ups on the night and when the last eight
teams were in place in the
quarter finals stages it saw the games go like this.
Jim Quinn & Grant Lyle 3-1
Disco Aitken & Jamie Fleming.
Gordon Bruce & Jim Mitchell 3-1 Paul Weir & Graeme Bird.
John Charleston
& John Rooney 3-1 John Brett & Davie Cluness.
Davie Nisbet & Colin Robertson 3-1 Stuart Russel & Alan
Wilson.
Semi finals saw two cracking match ups with the two losing semi finalists quite simply good
enough to contest the
finals on another night the games were that good.
Davie Nisbet and Colin Robertson got through a real character testing
match against another team
from the Dovehill Highway Men in the shape of John Charleston and the John Rooney by the
tightest of
margins score on the door was 3 games to 2 with the two Johns sitting on double twenty for the
match themselves.
The other semi final saw two Paraffin Lamp teams face off for a place in the final
it was Jim
Quinn and Grant Lyle up against Gordon Bruce and Jim Mitchell high scoring
encounter but it was Gordon and Jim who progressed
to the final line up.
Now if you were a darting connoisseur you could not have picked a better four for the final in
one corner
you had. The reigning West Lothian Summer league singles Champion Davie Nisbet and the newly crowned
West Lothian Grand Prix Singles Champion Colin Robertson representing the Dovehill Highway Men.
And in
the other corner you had the reigning W.C.D.D.L. Singles Champion Jim Mitchell.
And the man who holds the
W.C.D.D.L. Singles title's of Christmas Singles, 301 Singles and
Champions of Champions titles Gordon
Bruce.
And what a feast of arrows these two teams produced the score went like this
Gordon Bruce 1-0 Colin Robertson.
Jim Mitchell 1-0 Davie Nisbet. Davie Nisbet 1-0 Gordon Bruce.
Colin Robertson 1-0 Jim Mitchell.
So here we had
it the final game of the night and the final leg of darts to be played one doubles leg of 501
to decide who would be
crowned Matchplay Champions of 2011-2012.
And the winning team of Gordon THE Bruce and Old Man Mitchell crossed the
line with an 71 take out.
And not something that happens very much Davie Desperate Dan Nisbet and Colin the Marshall
Robertson
had to settle for runners up this time round. But I am sure these two teams will meet up again and it
should be a cracker. I for one look forward to it.
Now some interesting facts from the nights darts Maximums were in
abundance with no fewer than
7 being hit and they were hit by. John the Punter Rooney 1x180.John Skippy Charleston
1x180.
The Ranger Paul Weir 1x180. Gordon THE Bruce 1x180.
The only man we need a vets licence for playing
in the league! Sheep Shaun Robertson 1x180.
Old Man Mitchell 2x180.
Top checkouts thrown by Lorne Pancho Villa Mitchell
93 game shot. Brian The Warrior Wallace 124 game shot.
Paul the Ranger Weir 86 take out. Paraffin Lamp Killer Scott
Cameron 118 finish. East
Calder's Graeme Bird 96 game shot. Grant Tasty Lyle 91 check out.
Fast games recorded
were hit by Graeme Bird 17+18 darters. Davie Nisbet 2x17 darters.
Colin Robertson 17+18 dart games.Paul Weir 17 darter.
Stuart Russel from Stoneyburn 19 dart game. Addiewell's Alan Wilson 16 darter.
Shaun Robertson 20 darter. Gordon
Bruce 16+17 darters. Chris Forsyth 20 darter.
John Charleston 20 darter. John Rooney 20 dart game. Old Man Mitchell
2x17+2x19 dart games.
Grant Lyle and Jim Quinn nice 18 dart game of doubles.
BUT when all said and done and the
game was over.
There one thing that stood out in my mind from the night and it was.
On a board upstairs we had
two real dart playing men throwing their arrows and they were Scotty Telford
at the age of 73 years young and his
partner who had every right to call Scotty JUNIOR!
yes Scotty's playing partner on the night was Bob Hall who had
just celebrated his 80th Birthday
recently this giving them an average age of 76 and a half lets not forget the
half.
Now thats is what darts is all about both these players in the past were great champions
both having
won Scottish titles and they were and still are formidable competitors.
Take them lightly and you do so at your peril.
Now they are the real champions of our sport they have been there and worn the T-Shirt and who is to say
at
80 and 73 they wont be doing it again!
Well played gentlemen see you on the ocky soon.

MURRAY BAR QUALIFIERS (Sat 26th Nov)
This
the second week of the qualifying rounds for the grand final saw a very low turn out with only
10 players in attendance.
One reason would have been the Scottish finals of the mixed triples in Bannockburn and the last
West Lothian Grand
Prix tournament of the season held in the Dovehill arms Uphall.
Just like buses you wait for them then three all
come at once!
Any way on the day it saw Disco Aitken of West Calder on the scoreboard with a cracking
maximum
180. Jamie Fleming nice 79 finish. Ian Mowbray on the maximum trail as well with three in
the red lipstick for a maximum
180 of his own. Kyle Gilmour nice 100 game shot and an 18 darter.
Big Wullie Jack in on the action with a 75 take
out and also hitting the red lipstick for yet
another maximum 180. When all said and done the two players qualifying
for the finals
are Jamie Fleming of West Calder and Kyle Gilmor of Polbeth.
Would like to think that I would be
able to attend one of these qualifiers but as stated before
there are so many darting items on the radar at the moment.
It is hard to get the time with counties next week and so on.
Breich Club has an open on the 17th December with
£200 guaranteed in prize monies and the
Volunteer Arms in Uphall also has their Christmas singles on the same
day under the leadership
of George Jukebox Thorburn. And I am not sure about the date but the Stirrup Stane
in Craigshill also has a Christmas singles tournament on as well.
Would hope that there will be time to make one of them
(hopefully)
BATHGATE FRIDAY NIGHT LEAGUE (Friday 25th Nov)
Lammies Bar in Fauldhouse back to winning way's with a convincing 8 games to 1 win over the
Cross Tavern
in Whitburn.Top shots on the night came from former county stalwart Dougie Hogg
with an excellent 120 game shot which
he then bettered in the doubles going out on a
fabulous 148 take out. Then joining in on the action it saw the man from
the Bathgate Hills
Jimmy Wood checking out a nice 123 game shot. Also showing a good deal of class was Alan Gardiner
knocking in his fifth maximum 180 of the season so far.
This was a marked improvement on the week before when the
Lammies team lost to Armadale's
Coppies Bar by the odd leg in nine.
Other games on the night saw
Coppies 'B' 5 Bathgate British Legion 4. This was a tight match with both
the Armadle and Bathagte players
tied at 3 games each after the singles 3.
But Coppies hit form just at the right time and claimed the first
two doubles matches
to make sure of the points. The British legion did make the score look very respectable winning
the last match of the evening but final score on the door went o the Armadale team with fine
5-4 fighting win.
Top shot out on the night came from Addiewell dart star John Kirk with a cracking 110 game shot
for the British Legion.
BATHGATE FRIDAY NIGHT LEAGUE (18th Nov)
Congratulations
go to the Silver Fox Mr Bob Hall of old Livingston Village celebrating
his 80th Birthday
on the ocky as usual a true dart player.80 years of age and still a formidable opponent.
On the
night he helped his team to an 8 games to 1 victory over the Croftmalloch
in the Bathgate league.
WINTER CLASSIC IV (Friday 25th Nov)
Well
some good games on the night with the best of them coming from John Grant with some
excellent finishing 2 x90 check
outs and a 104 game shot. Also knocking in 17&20 dart games.
Old Man Mitchell 1 x 171 and 2x18 darters and an 84
game shot.
Craig McDonald nice maximum 180 from this up and coming Harrysmuir Warrior dart player.
Lorne Panch Villa
Mitchell maximum on the treble 19's cracking 1x171and a 19 dart game.
Paraffin Lamp Ruffneck Kirk Gordon nice 20
darter. Once again our only lady player was in action and I do
believe she once again gave a male member of our
league a real fright.
If Jillian ever starts to hit those doubles she will easily put a few of the mens scalps
on her darting C.V.
Results from the evenings play went like this.
Skippy Charleston 6-2 Kirk Gordon.
Frank Crook 5-3 Jillian O'Neil. Craig McDonald 5-3 Stevie Stalker.
John Grant 5-3 Matt Heeps.Derek Penn 6-2 Wullie
Jack. Craig McDonald 7-1 Frank Crook.
John Grant 7-1 Frank Crook. Colin Kelly 5-3 Paul Gaudsen. Lorne Mitchell 4-4 Scott
Cameron.
Jim Mitchell 8-0 Lorne Mitchell.Colin Kelly 8-0 Paul Cairney.
Frank Begley 6-2 Stuart Bowes.Lorne Mitchell
5-3 Colin Kelly.
Only two more weeks to go before the final on the 16th December.
Prize fund looks like this atthe
moment
Champion £135.00 Second £90.00. Semi finalists 2x£50.00
Quarter finalists 4x£30.00.
Players who dont make the last eight will each receive alchoholic drinks (bottle) to help
get over the disapointment
of not making the grand final. All in all no one walks away with nothing
so it cant be bad a game of darts and prizes
for playing!
MONDAY NIGHT
ROUND UP
W.C.D.D.L. (21st Nov)
PLAYER
OF THE NIGHT
Goes to none other than Fred The Fat Controller Hamilton captain of the Stirrup Stane Indians with
an excellent 18 dart game and a superb 112 game shot. Just one short of the 113 the Fat B-----d
Hit against me not
that I hold a grudge!
(Well played Fred)
McMillan’s
Highlanders V Stirrup Stane Indians
First up we
had the Highlanders from old Deans Village up against Fred Hamilton’s Stirrup Stane Indians.
And by all accounts
this was a terrific tussle with the match going to the very last double.
A hard earned win by the tightest of margins saw the McMillan Highlanders come away with the two
very
valuable points which see’s them keep the league leaders in their sights.
Murray Bar Strollers V Murray
Bar Y.T.
Derby Match up at the Murray Bar in Polbeth
with the Murray Bar Strollers up against the Young Team.
The Strollers coming away with a fine 8 games to 1 victory
with Brian Mairs and Gary Finlayson
taking the top honiurs with a excellent 15 dart doubles match Gary checking a cracking
80 game shot.
Tower Bar Knights V Paraffin
Lamp Brigands
Tower Bar Knights under the leadership
of Jock Stewart were at home to the travelling band of Brigands
from the Paraffin Lamp. This was a cracking match with
some excellent scoring coming from the home team
with Andy Cheshire and Stuart Dodd’s both knocking in maximum
180’s.
And with the man they call Salmon or Ian Stewart to us mere mortals leading the charge
it saw the
Knights take an early lead when Ian got the better of Gordon Bruce.
It was then pulled back to even Stevens with
a win courtesy of Brian McIntyre over the ever youthful
Captain Marvel himself John Grant. But back came the Knights
with that good looking and charismatic Craigshill
artist of great repute Stuart Mitchell. Taking the game by a score
line of 2 games to 1 with an excellent
100 game shot to take the match from Marvellous Lee Holland. Old Man Mitchell
made all square again
for the travelling Brigands just getting the better of Andy Cheshire who knocked in a maximum
but then did
not convert the 58 that was left and a 2 games to 0 for the Old Man Mitchell
Who went out in 19 &
20 darts with a 97 take out .
Colin Kelly still on sabbatical from the Antediluvian Island (must ask customs when
his work visa expires,
Oops just remembered he works for Virgin so being an outlaw.
Probably
makes him the right man for the job he does?)
Colin had to work hard to get past Stuart Dodd’s another tight match
won only by the odd leg in three
but Colins last game came in 16 darts and was the fastest of the evening.
Last
up saw the man from Deepest Darkest Mid Calder take to the ocky and flush with his success
on Saturday in qualifying
for the Murray Bar Finals it saw him take the last singles.
And the travelling Brigand were 4 games to 2 up.
First
up for the Tower Knights in the doubles saw John Grant and Ian Stewart take the opening match
and at 3 games to 4 down
it was all still to play for. But unfortunately for the home team the Brigands
took the next 2 games and the final score
on the door was 6 games to 3 and two very valuable
points to the Paraffin Lamp Brigands to the relief of the team
captain Stuart Tait.
Dovehill Highway Men
V Doo Club Fanciers
League champions the Dovehill
Highway Men were on form and a 9 games to 0 score line just
underlined how merciless a bunch of darters these top players
are.
And adding some very valuable legs difference to their total in the games won section of the league table.
Over the East Calder’s Doo Clubs Fanciers. The question is can anyone stop last seasons champions
from doing
it all over again only time will tell. But M.O.M on the night go'es to Skippy
no I dont mean the Kangaroo but our
very own John Skippy Charleston with a cracking 18 dart game
and a rock solid 92 game shot. In the pairs Skippy teamed
up with Bet Freds favourite John the Punter Rooney
to knock in a classy 18 dart doubles match.
Paraffin Lamp Ruffnecks V Murray Bar Nomads
The home team of the Ruffnecks were on fire if what I am hearing is true and John Bruton’s
team
of Nomads must be wondering what hit them 5 games to 0 down in the singles.
And that surprises me as the Nomads
have an excellent squad of players.
Final score saw the Murray Bar Nomads come back strong but the damage
was done and the end result
a cracking 5 games to 4 victory for the Ruffnecks.Top game coming from a man still
on form after his county
outing last week end where he represented West Lothian against Renfrewshire. And of course
it is
Grant Lyle finishingin 17&18 darts. Team Captain Big Wullie Jack was on target as well with a
maximum
180 to add to his league tally.
And by all accounts the Paraffin Lamp Ruffnecks are playing the
same darts
that they were famous for last season with a lot of flair and determination.
Last season it was only the final
run in the league title race that let them down looks
like they are trying to go for gold this time round!
Harrysmuir Warriors V Stirrup Stane Cowboys
Harrysmuir Warriors on a roll at the moment gained
a very creditable win over the
Stirrup Stane Cowboys by an emphatic score line of 8 games to 1.
With former county
player! Shaun Robertson knocking in a tasty 18 dart game.
Almondvale Pirates V Doo Club Flyers
Almondvale
Pirates, grounded by the Doo Club Flyers. By a single game
with the score being 5 games to 4 in favour of the Flyers.
When the rest of
this week’s darts news gets to me it will be published here A.S.A.P.
So if you have news of players hitting good games please drop me a line.
Nice to give
credit where credit is due don’t you think?
MURRAY BAR QUALIFIER (Saturday 19th Nov)
First to cross the winning line in this eight week qualifying competition were Polbeths Hitman
Davie Aitken
alongside him on the podium was none other than the man from
Deepest Darkest Mid Calder John Two Hands Hanlon.
Some
excellent shooting on the day coming by way of
Gordon THE Bruce nice 15 darter and a 116 game shot. Davie Nisbet
otherwise known as Desperate Dan
on song with 17&19 dart games. Craig Jack of Polbeth nice maximum 180 and
104 take out.
From the mighty metropolis of Breich we had Jamie Bishop knocking in a 20 dart game.
Davie Aitken
on target with 118 finish along side 3x18 dart games and a cracking 15 darter.
John Hanlon 14-16-2x17-19-20 dart games.
Disco Aitken also on target with a maximum 180.
Best of the day how ever came from the Dovehill Highway man
Colin Robertson with a cracking 12 darter which included 2 x 180's and a 19 darter to follow.
Players just missing
out in their semi finals were Shaun Sheep Robertson and Gordon THE Bruce
WINTER CLASSIC IV (Friday 18th Nov)
With the league
hitting the halfway stages it has seen some movers and shakers in the league
positions remembering there are prizes
all the way down to last position.
So every point is extremely valuable.
The top four players from each league will
make it through to the knockout stages so everything
to play for as the saying go'es. Scores froM Fridays matches
are
Jim Mitchell7-1 Paul Cairney . Scott Cameron 7-1 Frank Begley. Paul Gaudsen 7-1 Lorne Mitchell.
Jim Mitchell
8-0 Stuart Bowes. John Grant 4-4 Wullie Jack. Matt Heeps 4-4 Craig McDonald.

Charleston 8-0 Frank Crook. Derek Penn 6-2 Kirk Gordon.
Wullie Jack 8-0 Frank Crook.Craig McDonald 6-2 Jillian O'Neil.Skippy
Charleston 7-1 John Grant.
Some big shots on the night were thrown by Big Frank Begley two smashing maximum 180's
(well truth be tld all maximums are smashing) But exceptionally so when hitting two in the same match.
Matt Heeps also
on the maximum trail with a 1x180 to add to his maximum total on the league table.
Paul Gaudsen and Old Man Mitchell
also hitting the red-lipstick in style maximums recorded by both
these players. Top checks came from Captain Marvel
himself John Grant who is still getting to grips
with his new eye wear (spectacles) but finishing two classy shot outs
with 104 & 90 check outs.
Kirk Gordon nice 83 finish.
Quick games came from top county player Skippy
Charleston 2 x 20 darters.
Old Man Mitchell 16-17-19-19 dart games.Matt Heeps 16 darter. Scott Cameron in there
with
an 18 dart game. Now if I have missed anyone out then should have let me know so remember folks
I can only
write about what I see or what you tell me now cant I ?
PUNCH TAVERNS COMPETITION (Thursday 17th Nov)
Dovehill Highway Men and the Bad Man continue their run of success
with a emphatic 11-0 win over the Railway
Tavern from Falkirk.
Abit of confusion at the moment in where the competition stands as this competition
has been
running for some months now.
Hopefully all will be revealed shortly when our illustrious captain
Pete I am no longer
boring Hastings
gets in touch with the organisers.
MONDAY NIGHT REPORT
(14th November)
First of all the match between the Dovehill Highway
Men and the Paraffin Lamp Ruffnecks was postponed.
This was to the Dovehill Arms having former world number 1 player
Peter One Dart Manley
on the ocky courtesy of the brewers.
Wait with bated breath to hear of the exploits on the
night. Peter has been in exhibition here in the
West Calder league before and was quite magnificent. So if you have
memories or stories to tell of the
night’s action please send those in lets all share them!
BRIGANDS HOST STROLLERS
Paraffin Lamp
Brigands were at home to the Murray Bar Strollers this match up in the past has always
brought out the best in both
teams as both squads of players boast county players in their ranks.
Some terrific tussles on the night but the Brigands
managed to close the match out in the singles by the
score line of 5-1 but truth be told there were games which were
won by the tightest of margins 2-1.
First double on went to the Strollers but the Brigands went on to win the remaining
two doubles
and the final score was a 7 games to 2 win for the Paraffin Lamp Brigands.
Frank Begley 1-2 John Brett.
Lee Holland 2-1 Stuart Russell. John Hanlon 2-1 Alan Wilson.
Rab Inglis 2-1
Davy Cluness. Jim Mitchell 2-0 Brian Mairs. Colin Kelly 2-0 Gary Finlayson.

& Alan Wilson.
Lee Holland & John Hanlon 2-0 Brian Mairs & Gary Finlayson.

WARRIORS VERSUS M.B.Y.T.
The Harrysmuir
Warriors collected their second win of the season by a five game to four win
over the Murray Bar Yong Team a close match
by all accounts.
And I will update the match stats as they get to me.
NOMADS SCUPPER PIRATES
John Bruton’s Murray Bar Nomads from Polbeth scuppered the good run of form shown
by Alan
Robinsons Almondvale Pirates this week.
The Nomads move up the league and are within touching distance of the top two
teams so with the league
having so many good players scattered throughout the teams this was an excellent win over a
team
that has been playing well. John Tannock put the first leg on the board but county player Colin Hamilton
was
on top scoring form and took the next two legs to put the Nomads up 1-0.
The infamous Pheasant Plucker of Old Deans
Village was next up for the Pirates otherwise known as
Stevie Duncan and the away team had something to cheer game
score 1-1.
Big Davy Smith had a cracking match against Jamie Fleming of West Calder and this match was decided
on
the final leg Jamie securing another point for the Nomads score line 2-1 to the home side.
Big Scott Begley walked into
a barrage of high scores when he played one of the inform players
in the league Kyle Gilmour with Kyle checking 74 &
91 finishes
and the score line now 3-1 to the Nomads. Big Derek Carmichael got the Pirates
back on track with
a fine display of arrow throwing and a good win over the highly rated
Disco Aitken of West Calder score 3-2 to the Nomads.
The final game in the single saw John take the game 2-0 from Chris Cameron
and the singles ended with the home
team 4 games to 2 up.
The doubles saw John Bruton’s boy’s take the first two matches to sit at 6 games to
2.
But give the Pirates their due a fine fight in the last pairs saw the duo of Scott & Chris
put a bit of
pride back into the Pirates team with a fine 2-1 win.
Craig Jack of the Nomads checking a 65 game shot doing his utmost
best not to let the away team
get the final point but a battling win saw the final match up go to the Pirates.
Final
score 6 games to 3 for the home side of the Murray Bar Nomads.
McMILLANS CHARGE DOWN THE FANCIERS
McMillan’s
Highlanders took a big step when playing the Doo Club Fanciers by winning by the high score
of 9 games to 0 giving
them a boost in the legs difference and two valuable points.
To move into fourth spot in the league table as it
stands just now.
Top game coming from that man known by his facial hair as the Mexican Bandit Lorne Mitchell
with
a nice 20 dart game.
DOO CLUB FLYERS VERSUS STIRRUP STANE INDIANS
Flyers
come away winging it with a nice 7 games to 2 victory to keep in touch with the
top teams in the league at the moment.
TOWER BAR KNIGHTS RIDE DOWN THE STIRRUP STANE COWBOYS
A convincing
9 games to 0 victory for the Craigshill Knights over the Stirrup Stane Cowboys.
Andy Cheshire with a nice 88 game shot
in this match more news and info will follow
as I receice it!
BATHGATE LEAGUE (Friday 11th Nov)
Dougie
Pride 301 singles competition.
Remembering this is the old fashioned way of playing darts and a great leveler
it
takes a player to be on the top of his or her form to win this title.
With it being double to start double
to finish.
Quarter finals saw D Hogg 3-1 D McIntyre. A Gardiner 3-1 A McAsear.
J Kennedy 3-2 J Kirk. S Duncan
3-1 G Boreland.
Semi Finals saw D Hogg3-1 A McSear. J Kennedy 3-1 S Duncan
Final saw J Kennedy
4-2 D Hogg
(many thanks to Stevie Duncan for the report)
WINTER CLASSIC LEAGUE (11th November)
This
weeks action started with Big Frank Begley and Paul Cairney sharing the points with a hard earned
draw final score
with bonus points 5-5.
Frank knocking in a maximum 180 as did Paul Cairney.
Paul Gaudsen can think himself
unlucky losing 7-1 to Old Man Mitchell this match was a good
scoring match from both players. Mitchell knocking
in 18+2x19 darters and a maximum 180.
Battle of the Stuarts saw Bowes and Russell share the spoils an even contest with
both players
claiming a bonus point 5-5 the end result.
Frank Begley was back in action in the last game
of the night and big Frank was in no mood
to give his opponent Stuart Russell a chance and a convincing score line of
8-0
and of course those valuable three bonus points for the win saw Frank shoot up the league table.
Falkirk
Posse member Derek Penn was in scintillating form just ask his opponent Frank Crook
an 8-0 win for the Falkirk man
which included a maximum 180 plus 117 take out along
with 15-16-17-17-19 dart games superb shooting and giving
Frank a real hard time of it.
Matt Heeps winning by 6-games to 2 over our only lady player but once again
Jillian O'Neil
showed she is no push over taking two valuable legs from Matt and knocking in a nice
17 darter
along the way.
Wullie Jack turned on the style and did'nt he need to with Kirk Gordon pushing him all the way
cracking match up with Wullie coming out on top by the score line of 5-3.
Wullie hitting 2x18 darters plus a
19 dart game and a cracking 117 finish.
Kirk doing very little wrong finishing his two games on 100+79 finishes.
Skippy Charleston kept his good run of form going with a 8-0 victory over
Fauldhouse darter Stevie Stalker.
Craig
McDonald was on fire taking out one of the leagues most respected players John Grant
by 5 games to 3 looks like John
will take a little time to settle into wearing
his new spectacles not an easy thing to do!
MONDAY NIGHT UPDATE (7th Nov)
Three players
getting their names onto the maximum league table with maximum 180's
are Paul Cairney of the Harrysmuir Warriors.
East Calders answer to the hairy bikers Stevie Scott
of the Doo Club Flyer's.
Scott Cameron of the Paraffin
Lamp Ruffnecks who go'es by the cute and cuddly name of Killer.
Good shooting from all these West Calder league dart
stars.

BREAKING NEWS
At the end of the month
the Dovehill Highway Men will be no more?
Unfortunately the Dovehill Arms will be under new management but all is not
lost!
Just down the road roughly 300 paces well if your legs are as short as Martin Deegan's say 600 paces is
the Volunteer Arms a pub that has boasted many dart teams in the past.
And I have it on good authority that this will
become home to the Highway Men.
But on a passing note on Monday the 14th November the Dovehill Arms has P.D.C Professional
Peter One Dart Manley
in exhibition courtesy of the brewers.
So not quite sure who would be playing that
night but I do believe both teams will have a ball.
Peter has done an exhibition before for the league and he is superb
and a real gent of a guy.
ENJOY it
you lucky so and so's.
WELCOME BACK
Nice to see an old face
and good friend take to the ockey after a season out of the big time
welcome back Bob Kinnon and to hear
his battle cry of

Derek Bird also of East Calder maximum
180.
Brian Mairs another maximum 180. Stuart Russell also on target with a 180.
Davie Nisbet cracking 177 score
to get him on to the maximum page remembering
any score over 171 will be classed as a maximum on this league table.
STROLLERS WALK OVER COWBOYS (Monday 7th November)
The Murray Bar Strollers last seasons league runners up were in excellent form
going into this
match and with some of their players in top shape it saw the Strollers round up the
Craigshill Cowboys who play for
the Stirrup Stane and claim the points on offer by a
score line of 8 games to 1.
Top shots came courtesy
of Brian Mair's also known as the Quiet Man with a cracking 100 game shot
just a wee bit short of his magnificent
170 finish of two seasons ago.
Also on target was the man from the land that time forgot
Stuart the Stoneyburn Wizard
Russell (gate must have been left open again!)
finishing his games in 17& 20 darts top shooting from this county
'A' player.
WARRIORS VERSUS PIRATES (Monday 7th November)
Close one this match up but Frank Crooks battling Harrysmuir Warriors just went down by the
closest of margins
to Alan Robinsons Almondvale Pirates score 5-4 to Pirates.
Top match would seem to have been the match up against Bob
Wallace of the Warriors
and Derek Carmichael of the Pirates Bob taking this match 2-1. John Tannock also on form
with a nice 19 dart game. But unfortunately he was up against the Warriors
county player Shaun Robertson who took
the next two legs to win 2-1.
Paul for the Harrysmuir Warriors knocked in a smashing maximum 180
in his match
backed up by a 100 next throw good shooting from this warrior.
Frank Crook and Big Scott Begley had a real tussle but
once again it was the Pirates who came
out on top and another tight game with a score line of 2-1 to the Pirates.
3-3 after the singles but the Warriors were a man short and in the end it cost them dear
a close match but the
Almondvale Pirates will be happy to have got a way with this one
two valuable points in the bag for Alan Robinson's
rapscallion's!
INDIAN'S V NOMAD'S (Mon 7th November)
The Stirrup Stane Indians under the captain-ship of Fred the Fat Controller Hamilton of Craigshill
hosted
the travalling band of Nomads under the leadership of John Bruton who now
play out of the Murray Bar in Polbeth.
Top shot of the night for the home team saw Colin Taff Cooper checking out on a magnificent 143.
And for the visitors
it was the man with the Knees! Proving that they are not his only attribute by throwing
a maximum 180 with his right
arm excellent shooting from this West Calder darter Jamie Fleming.
The Nomads took the points and the match by a score
line of 7 games to 2.
FLYER'S AGAINST HIGHLANDERS (Monday 7th November)
The Doo Club Flyer's from East Calder were at home to the visiting team of Highlanders
who throw their darts out of McMillan's of Old Deans Village.
This was always going to be a hard game to call
with both teams having top local darters in their ranks.
The match went to the very last double with the visiting
team just managing to take the points by
the tightest of score lines 5 games to 4 for the visitors.
CHAMPIONS AT HOME TO YOUNG ONES (Monday 7th November)
The reigning league champions the Dovehill Highwaymen were at home to one of the newest teams in
the league the Young Team from the Murray Bar in Polbeth.
The Young team have some talented players in their
squad
but the Highwaymen of Uphall are not league champions for nothing.
And quite simply did what comes naturally
to them and with all their experience they walked away
9 games to 0 winners in this match up.
But all credit
to the Murray Y.T. they are learning each week and I for one will be most happy
when they win their first match to post
it on this web site in large letters.
RUFFNECKS HOST BRIGANDS (Monday 7th November)
Well this was a Derby match up with the Paraffin Lamp Ruffnecks and the Paraffin Lamp Brigands
both looking
to take the points and move up the league table.
First match up saw the Ruffnecks captain Big Wullie Jack up against
Gordon THE Bruce.
Brigands player Gordon put the first chalk on the board for the visitors but it was a brave performance
from
the Ruffnecks captain Wullie Jack who was playing with a shoulder injury.
Next up saw two top local stars
go hammer and tong and one again it saw the visitors in the shape of
Marvellous Lee Holland take a hard fought match
2-1 from Ross the Big Deal Burnside in a very close encounter.
Jim the Mighty Quinn can think himself unfortunate with
chances in his match up with Rab Inglis
but Rab Cidre Ingles rolled back the years and took this game once again by
the very tightest of margins
2-1 and a score line of three games to nil after three matches for the visitors.
But if the first three games were great games to watch the fourth was a belter.
Grant Lyle up against John Hanlonand
with John Two Hands Hanlon taking the first leg and just missing
a game shot on 105 in the second leg it saw Grant Lyle
show his class
by annexing a marvellous 111 20-51-40 game shot. And with some excellent shooting it saw Grant
put
a chalk up for the home team to tremendous applause for a cracking match.
Next to step up to the ocky were
Scott the Killer Cameron and Old Man Mitchell both players hit the scores
easily enough. But double trouble was
close at hand and a very good match became a match
of who could grind out a finish first.
Fortunately for
the visitors it was Mitchell taking the score by once again the tighest of margins 2-1
and another chalk on the
board for the Brigands.
Next up saw the youthful Candy Man Sandy Coulter for the Ruffnecks and his opponent
all
the way from the Antipodeans Islands Colin the Outlaw Kelly.
Sandy was off on a mission in the first leg but a few missed
doubles saw Colin step in and finish
a classic 104 game shot 54-bullseye. Unfortunately for the visiting Brigands this
inspired
the Candy Man and Sandy missed very little in the next two legs and after some terrific tussles
it saw
the singles end up 2-4 for the visiting Brigands and still all to play for!
Now this is where captains have to make
some hard decisions and with both team captain's
putting their respective thinking caps on in the shape of Wullie
Jack of the Ruffnecks and
Stuart Tait from the Brigands.
And it was Ruffnecks captain Wullie Jack who got it right
in the first match up
taking the game 2-0 and putting the game to within one chalk of the Brigands.
However
the Brigands managed to secure both the remaining games and walked out
6 games to 3 winners
but so many matches
could have gone either way the rematch should be very interesting indeed.
BERWICK OPEN (5th November)
Well
where to start to try and make it sound good for the travelling band of hopefuls from the
West Lothian county darts
scene. First out was Mitchell 1-0 up and looking good but managing
with great success to snatch defeat from the arms
of victory!
Chris The Gabby Cabby had a bit more success with a fine 2-0 win in his opening game but then
Alas
a turn around and 0-2 was the score in the next match.
Matt Heeps playing with a bandaged finger not good advice to
let the caravan door swing back shut
especially when your hand is in the way a 0-2 loss and not surprising with a swollen
thumb.
Stevie Scott a player doing well locally went down fighting but a 1-2 defeat and he was joining
the
Gabby Cabby and the Old one on the side lines as well.
Kenny Surgenor a fine 2-1 win before going out and a good display
here considering Kenny
has not had much practise in the last 6 months after moving out of the area.
Stuart Tait
going down 0-2.But then we had a hero who took to the ockey
in the shape of Breich's top dartist Jamie Bishop
who went on to win win four matches on the day taking some excellent scalps along the way
his scores were 2-0.2-1.2-0.2-0.0-2
a fine performance from this county player
who now walks the ocky for Lanarkshire. And who may be having a nick name
change as well.
I am not saying anything just yet but STUD comes to mind?
Shug Rice going down 1-2 in his first
round tie. Brian McIntyre did everything but hit a double
and 0-2 was the score on the door for him as well.
Arran
Edwards a 1-2 loss but he certainly picked up the next day making the semi finals
of the youth tournament.
Skippy
Charleston winning 2-1 before going out 1-2 to another of his travelling companions
this time the Marshall Colin Robertson.
Colin then went on a run just as Jamie Bishop had done making the last 16 with fine wins
with score lines of 2-1.2-1.2-0.0-2
with some top shooting 98+105 check outs. And an 18 darter.
Graham Boreland took his first round match 2-1 but then like
many before him bowed out
0-2 in the next game.
So all in all not one of the counties best performances at
this annual pilgrimage
but a good laugh and a good time had by most see you next time with hopefully
better results
to report!
Doubles on the Sunday after taking a early bath was back in the caravan by mid-day
so if anyone can
help out with some exciting news! send it in always looking to give credit to those
that deserve it.
Oh and Andy
Boulton won the singles for those at our last years exhibition you will know
just how good a player Andy is. He was
in excellent form through out the week end.
George Dalglish and Harry Toddman took the mens pairs title. And in the ladies
section it saw
Louise Hepburn take the ladies singles crown.
And good friend of mine on the darting circuit Wullie
Laird of Ayrshire was jumping for joy
when his Daughter Katie and partner claimed the Ladies doubles title.
Well
done to all.
KINGS HEAD BERWICK (4th November)
The
annual pilgrimage to Berwick for the darting week end saw the usual crowd of suspects head off to the
Kings Head in
Olde Berwick town. Unfortunately with so many entries this time round the competition was
played in a very quick
fire format just 3 x 501 so quite simply make a mistake and thats you out!
Skippy Charleston who is soon to have a name
change to Pappa 'J'
was called out against his old adversary and travelling companion Old Man
Mitchell a good match.
Which saw Skippy take out a cracking 128 game shot
but alass Mitchell took the remaining
two games to go through to the next round.
Colin the Marshall Robertson went back to his caravan that night legless
well to tell the truth
he went out of the competition 0-2 in the first round an unusual occurrence for one of our
more senior players. Mitchell went on to win another two matches before bowing out 0-2
in the board final though he
did have the consolation of hitting a maximum 180 on the way out.
BONFIRE NIGHT BUT NO FIREWORKS! (4th November)
East Calder Doo Club at home to the travelling Legionares other wise known as the
British Legion Bathgate.
Score from this match saw the home team take control and walk out with
a fine 6-3 victory and the well deserved bonus
points for the win.
Both these teams are new to the Friday night Bathgate league but both boast either former
or
current county players in their ranks.
Maximums were fired in by players from both sides with Big Geordie Drybourgh from
Deans Village
on target for the Legionaires and Graeme Bird for the home team of the Pigeon Fanciers.
Graeme was
also on target with an 86 game shot finishing of his game in 17 darts.
Many thanks again to Stevie Duncan for the report
and hopefully there will be more to follow.

HIGHWAYMEN WIN FOUR MAN TEAM (Mon 31st Oct)
Dovehill Highwaymen continue their good run of form in annexing the Four Man team competition.
More on this
nights darts event will be added after the league meeting on Wednesday.
WINTER CLASSIC IV (Friday 28th Oct)
SHOCK
HORROR!
Jillian gets two legs over?
Well the third week of
the Winter Classic league is well under way now.
Some terrific scoring and a few shocks along the way.
Some of the
statistics for the night were Stevie Stalker maximum 180 and a cracking 110 check out
and a lovely 18 darter to boot.
Big Wullie Jack showing the form that he is so capable of with 16-18-18 darters and 80 check out
along with a maximum
180. Old Man Mitchell 3 x 20 darters and a 91 finish.
Lorne Mitchell an 84 check out. Derek Penn firing on all cylinders
with14-15-17-17-18-19-20
dart games and with finishes of 80 and 120 top shooting from this Falkirk county player.
The Outlaw Colin Kelly nice 19 dart game and a 105 game shot.
One of West Lothian players who have played at the Lakeside
John Skippy Charleston on form with
17-2x19-2x20 dart games and a maximum 180.
Scores from the night were
Wullie
Jack 8-0 Jillian O'Neil. Derek Penn 6-2 Craig McDonald. Skippy Charleston 8-0 Jillian O'Niel.
Kirk Gordon
6-2 Frank Crook. Derek Penn 7-1 Stevie Stalker. Skippy Charleston 5-3 Matt Heeps.
John Grant 6-2 Jillian O'Neil.
Wullie Jack 7-1 Craig McDonald.
Scott Cameron 6-2 Stuart Russell. Lorne Mitchell 6-2 Paul Cairney. Scott Cameron 7-1
Paul Gaudsen.
Jim Mitchell 7-1 Frank Begley. Colin Kelly 7-1 Stuart Bowes.
Scott Cameron 8-0 Paul Cairney.
And
just so you dont wonder what the title of this report was well Jillian O'Neil took two legs
off Captain Marvel
himself otherwise known as John Grant and Jillian could have had more
big Wullie can count his blessing as well?
We shall say no more!
DARTS REPORT (Mon 24th Oct)
NOMADS HOST LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
Now this must have been some match when looking at the statistics sent
in by Colin Hamilton
of the Murray Bar Nomads.
Kyle Gilmour and partner in crime Davie Aitken both on target with
excellent maximum 180's
as was John Rooney of the Dovehill Highway Men. The Polbeth Hit Man Davie Aitken was on
form
as you would expect from a man who has won the league singles title on two occasions before
2 x 19 darters
to his credit. Kyle Gilmour just behid with a 20 darter rock solid darting
from these two Nomads.
Colin Robertson
and Davie Nisbet on form in the doubles for the Highwaymen with an 18 dart pairs game.
But going one better it saw Kyle
Gilmour and Davie Aitken team up and produce
an even better 17 dart game.
But not to be outdone it saw John Skippy
Charleston and John Rooney up the ante with an excellent
15 dart game super stuff and with that the final score was
6-3 to the Dovehill Highway Men.
WARRIORS AT HOME TO FLYER'S (Mon 24th Oct)
The Harrysmuir Warriors were at home to the Doo Club Flyer's and once again their man on form
Brian Wallace
was hitting a good game it would seem that not a week has passed without this warrior
making headlines cracking 17 dart
game to Brian's credit.
Also back from holiday it saw our man Sheep or should I say Shaun Robertson on target
with a maximum 180 to add to his league tally of maximums.
Final score line on this match was a 7-2 win to the Doo
Club Flyer's.
I have no information as yet about players on form for the Doo club but will update
as when they
get to me if ever?
COWBOYS ROUNDED UP (Mon 24th Oct)
The
Paraffin Lamp Ruffnecks continued their good run of success with an 9-0 win over the
Stirrup Stane Cowboys.
Top
games courtesy of Captain of the Ruffnecks Big Wullie Jack with a 20 darter .
Going one better it saw Grant Lyle a nice
19 dart game to his credit.
And the man they call the Mighty Quinn or otherwise known as Jim Quinn
checking
out on a rock solid 75 game shot.
I woulds also like to take this opportunity to saying welcome to
John McCaw
of Whitburn
who has just joined the league for those who don't know John he is a Scottish official and
when
we have our exhibition nights John is our resident official marker on those evenings.
Welcome John.
BRIGANDS PLUNDER THE POINTS (Mon
24th Oct)
The brigands at home for this evenings entertainment were hosts
to one of the inform teams in the league
the Almondvale Pirates who have been on a run of consecutive wins just recently
under the
captain-ship of Alan Robinson and his Pirate flag.
Unfortunately there has to be a loser and thought
the score line looks emphatic it was anything but!
An 8-1 final score line does not tell the whole truth the Pirates
resident cabin boy otherwise known as
triple 'P' Pirate Pheasant Plucker or Stevie Duncan to the rest of the
world was in scintillating form
finishing his match of in style a cracking 17 darter which cumulated in a 90 game shot
via 54-36
excellent shooting from this Pirate.
Big Davie Smith can think himself unlucky a missed double 6 from
a score of 89 and a big 19 hit with his
last dart at a cracking effort on 158 with the two treble twenties going in
with great accuracy
was all in vain as the Old Man Mitchell took his opportunities and claimed the win.
For the
home team the man they call Marvellous was also on form a superb 174 via the treble twenty
and two treble nineteen's
giving Marvellous Lee Holland another maximum score to add
to his tally of maximums. Remembering in this league any
score over the top finish of 170
(171-180) will get you onto the maximums league table.
Also on target for
the Paraffin Lamp Brigands was Brian Tosh McIntyre hitting a maximum 180
to add to his growing tally of big scores on
the maximum page.
Old Man Mitchell was also on target on the red lipstick with a maximum 180 as well.
Gordon THE
Bruce on fire taking his two games out in a rock solid performance with two twenty darters
the question has to be asked
though would he be as good without his now famous baseball type
footwear I remember when the baseball shoes he now wears
were white!
The final score was an excellent win for the home team but the Almondavale Pirates
certainly seem to
be playing with a new belief which I am reliably informed comes from everyone
in their team from cabin boy to
captain pulling together.
And if what I heard after the match is correct their Captain is not going to make them walk
the plank
because of this defeat nor is he thinking of chaining them to the galley benches and making them
row their way back home.
Instead he is telling them if this happens again he is going to make the Pheasant Plucker
their chef
and they cant leave the table till all the hardtack has been eaten!
Look forward to the return match
this was a good natured and very hard fought but friendly game
enjoyed by all in attendance.
WINTER CLASSIC REVIEW (Fri 21st Oct)
Well
we should now be under way in this league but unfortunately just like past seasons
some players chose not to turn up
and when that happens it certainly knocks the league
out of sync. The question is will these players who decided not
to bother showing up
turn up next week if there is any player out there who knows these dart players could you drop
me a line to tell to let me know if they are going to come back.
Other players make the effort and when they are
left twiddling their thumbs and asking the question
just like myself are they going to come and play or what. So once
again should any of you be a
team member who plays along side these players could you let me know A.S.A.P.
Now
on a more happy front their have been a few mover and shakers in the league so far.
And making a big move has seen
Captain Flash himself otherwise known to us mer mortals
as Kirk Gordon moving to the top of his league with two excellent
results 7-1 and 8-0
top shot was a nice 77 game shot and a 20 darter but most important of all was the 6 bonus points
for the two win's which see Kirk top his league table.
Big Wullie Jack entered the Frey and recorded a nice
6-2 win over Stevie Stalker.
Frank Crook and Matt Heeps had a ding dong of a fight and it ended with scores even at
4-4
and a bonus point each for the draw. Kirk Gordon a 7-1 winner over John Grant.
Derek Penn of the Falkirk Posse
a rock solid performance in his 7-1 victory over
Matt Heeps which included 17+19 darters for Derek and a 19 darter for
Matt in this match.
Kirk winning over an out of sorts Stevie Stalker from Fauldhouse by 8 games to nil.
Lorne Mitch
Mitchell playing solid darts took a 7 games to 1 victory over Monday night
team mate Stuart Bowes.
Old Man Mitchell
found himself three games adrift against a rampant Outlaw in the form and shape
of Colin Kelly but a missed opportunity
on double eight let Mitchell off the hook and gave the Old Man
then chance he needed to get onto the match and
came back to win a hard fought match
by a score line of 5-3 Mitchell hitting 2x180 maximums and 2x20 dart games and
a 77 check out.
Colin a 20 darter of his own. Big Frank Begley and Paul Gaudsen
battled out a hard
match which saw both players having to settle for a draw and one
bonus point each top shot and highest game shot of
the night saw Paul finishing a fabulous
125 game shot via 25-60-40 nicely done.
Well hopefully next week the missing
players will turn up and we can get this league going in earnest
players will have now to start playing two matches
a night.
As this league will finish the week before Christmas
so come on guys if you put your name forward
and came the first week lets finish
what you started !
WINTER CLASSIC IV (Fri 14th Oct)
Well a smaller than
anticipated registration but there were still enough players to make up two leagues of ten.
We had eighteen players
show up on the night and I have been told their are two on holidays
so we shall see if next week they show!
Anyway
the matches got under way with every match 8 x 501 every leg you win is a point
and should you win you get three bonus
points and if you earn a draw you recieve one point
just like the football league.
Also on offer each night are
five points just for being there so a perfect example is
win 8-0 you get 8 points for each leg won
3 points for
the win and 5 points for registering total of 16 points for the nights work.
So you can see by this example the bonus
points for turning up and playing are extremely valuable.
Players hitting the board in style were Graig McDonald nice
18 darter and a 80 game shot.
John Charleston 80 game shot. Derek Penn on target with 2 x 16 darters and a maximum 180.
Jim Mitchell 2 x 18 darters and a 19 dart game maximum 180 and an 86 game shot.
Scott Cameron on target with a 90 game
shot. Stuart Bowes clincal 86 finish.
Kirk Gordon 19 darter and a 96 game shot. Matt Heeps finishing in 17 and 19 darts.
Results from the night were
Christmas Tree StarsSkippy Charleston
6-2 Craig McDonald. Derek Penn 6-2 John Grant. Matt Heeps 4-4 Kirk Gordon.
Frank Crook 6-2 Stevie Stalker.
The Mistletoe BunchJim Mitchell 8-0 Stuart Russell. Scott Cameron 5-3 Stuart Bowes. Lorne Mitchell4-4Frank Begley.
Paul Geudsen
6-2 Paul Cairney.
BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE (Mon 17th Oct)
That is where you will find yourself when you are entertained by the
Paraffin Lamp Ruffnecks and on Monday
past the Doo Club Fanciers
came a calling from East Calder.
One of the highlights of the night was a cracking 19
darter from The Big Deal Ross Burnside who was
travelling down the chalk board at an alarming pace with shots
that included a maximum 180
and checks of 86 & 100.
Sandy Coulter a former Dovehill Highway Man a couple
of seasons ago has never looked back
after joining the Ruffnecks knocking in yet another maximum 180.
In
the pairs the teaming up of Ross Burnside and Scott Cameron proved to be a very useful partnership
knocking
in a 20 dart leg.
Final score on the door was a resounding nine games to nil for the home side-and two very valuable
points in the bag.
HOUSE OF FOOD (Mon 17th Oct)
Well
what a nice surprise we the Paraffin Lamp Brigand’s had an away match against Fred Hamilton’s
Stirrup Stane
Indians. Now the match had only a couple of mentions to write home about
and both were checkouts. Fred Hamilton finishing
off in fine style with an excellent 113 game shot 19-60-34.
The only other mention of the night was Colin Kelly still
on sabbatical from the prison ship in the antipodeans
Islands finishing a very tidy 92 game shot. The match was won by
the visiting team of Brigands
final score was 7-2. But at half time a time not so long ago when you used to if you were
lucky
you might get a warm pie!
Well not in the Stirrup Stane under new management this darting venue has decided
to feed
the dart players in style.
Fish in batter sausages in batter (all crispy and hot) Fresh cooked chips and
for those who did not want
good old fashioned food there was a chicken and beef stir fry with rice.
Now quite
simply one of the best spreads I have seen in a long time this is definitely a management team
who want to look after
their dart players and guests.
And on behalf of the travelling Paraffin Lamp Brigands can I say we were very impressed
indeed
and very grateful for the effort that was put in to make us welcome,
Cheers can’t wait till next
time.
MURRAY
BAR NOMADS HOST THE HIGHLANDERS
John Bruton’s Nomadic
dart playing warriors were in top form as they hosted the travelling team of
Highlanders from McMillan’s Bar from
Old Deans Village. Both of these top teams will be hoping
and probably expecting to be at the top
end of the league come the seasons end so every point is valuable.
The final result was a home victory with the Murray
Nomads coming away 6-3 winners.
On form on the treble twenty was Big Geordie Dryburgh with a magical maximum 180 for
the visitors.
Other games of note was a very tidy 18 dart pairs game from the Polbeth Hit Man Davie
Aitken
and Kyle Gilmour who is certainly starting to impress a lot of people with his high scoring game.
PIRATES MAKE VISITORS WALK THE PLANK
The Almondvale Pirates under the leadership of that infamous
captain of arrows Alan Robinson
have continued their good run with a resounding nine games to nil victory over the Stirrup
Stane Cowboy’s.
John Tannock set the tone for the evening with a 2-0 win to put the Pirates one up.
Then
the resident Pheasant Plucker from Old Deans Village probably signed on as the ships cook for the Pirates
also won by
the score of 2-1 to put another notch on the score board for the home side.
Up next and doing it the hard way it saw
Big Scott Begley take his game into extra time and come away
with a 2-1 win as well. Big Davy Smith was up against the
Cowboys ramrod Archie and it was a
nip and tuck affair with the game see sawing back and forth but Big Davy Smith
with the help of two doubles took the honours and another notch for the Pirates.
Chris Cameron and Derek Carmichael
both then entered the fray and with both players winning 2-0
it saw the Pirates go into unassailable lead 6-0 at the
interval for probably a siesta with Grog and Hardtack
(Pies and sandwiches for the uninitiated out there) knowing
these sea faring Pirates
from the banks of the Almond! The pairings
of Stevie & Bruce, Alan & Ian, Chris & Davy capped of a tremendous
night for the home team taking all
three doubles and giving them an excellent nine games to nil whitewash.
DOVEHILL HIGHWAY MEN TAKE THE PLUNDER!
Well by all accounts this was a mighty close match the visiting team of Murray Bar Strollers
and the Dovehill Highway Men were the top two teams in the league last season so fireworks
were to be expected.
Now I don’t have a note of top shots or big check outs yet but
I have been told
by good authority that the Highwaymen took their chances when offered and that was the difference
between these two teams. Sometimes when you are at the top you make your own luck
and a fine 6-3 win for the
Dovehill keeps their good run of fortune going.
The question has to be asked who will beat them and when will they
lose or maybe
they won’t we will wait and see. But it may be that some other team will have to have lady luck
sitting
on their shoulder that night and if she is they had better make good use of her.
Because the Highway men
are still on a roll just as they were last year.
TOWER KNIGHTS CHARGE DOWN WARRIORS.
The
home team claimed the points in this match but the Harrysmuir Warriors did not go down without a fight.
Brian Wallace
and Craig McDonald for the Warriors were on target with the maximum 180’s
along with S Dodd’s?(anyone help
with a first name please)
Salmon otherwise known as Ian Stewart was checking out well with a rock solid 76 game
shot.
But making the headlines has to be Stuart Mitchell with two excellent finishes of 130 and 81
quality checking
from this Mitchell from Craigshill.
Now if anyone can help out with any other scores or
stories from the night please drop me a line
I can only report what I hear or see so come on share the news if you have
any
Thanks
Jim
DOVEHILL HIGHWAY MEN AND BE-BAD (Sun 16th Oct)
Well
the visiting team of the Royal Bar from Edinburgh had to pull out at the last
minute with players unavailable due to
work and holiday commitments this meant that
the Dovehill went through by a score line of 18 games to 4.
Following
their 7-4 win from the previous week.
And if our very own Gabby Cabby is correct in his assumption puts the Highway Men
and Hanger on
Be-Bad into the quarter finals of the Scottish competition!
Team consists of Captain Colin The Marshall
Robertson. The Gabby Cabby Chris Forsyth.
John Skippy Charleston. Martin Penfold Deegan.
George Jukbox Thorburn. Desperate
Dan otherwise known as Davie Nisbet.
John the Gambler Rooney. Pete will you all stop yawning Hastings.
Shaun Sheep
Robertson and Be Bad.
HIGHWAYMEN KEEP RUN GOING (Mon 10th Oct)
The
league champions the Dovehill Highway Men kept their good
run of wins going with a six games to three win over the
Doo Club Flyer's.
Now by all accounts this was very hard match if what I have heard on the darting grapevine is
to be believed. The Dovehill have the same players as last season but the Doo club have without a doubt
strengthened
their squad with a couple of new additions in the shape of Graeme Bird and Stevie Scott.
And there is no doubt in my
mind that both these teams will be in the higher echelons of league placings
come the seasons end would be nice to see
if I am right but if I were a betting man a couple of
farthings would be going on these two team being in the top three
places which order
they finish in is another matter.
NOMADS TAKE WIN OVER YOUTH (Mon 10th Oct)
Murray
Bar had two team playing against each other on Monday night past and the Nomads
in the shape of John Brutons boys
kept up the pressure on the teams at the top of the league
with a convincing eight games to one win.
The Murray
Y.T team are quite simply the youngest team in the league age wise
and though the going is tough at the moment
this team will get better once they settle in
and there is some excellent potential in their squad all they have
to do is keep on plugging away
wins will come.
On the night Colin Hammy Hamilton was the player hitting the red-lipstick
nice maximum 180
to add to his tally for the season so far.
TOWER KNIGHTS HOST THE RUFFNECKS (Mon 10th Oct)
Well there were no come downs from the Paraffin Lamp Ruffnecks
after their very close match in the final
of the K.O. Cup they took the game straight to the home side.
And when
you consider that the Tower Bar Knights have one of the league’s top home board Records
If I am not mistaken
they have taken points from all the top teams when playing at the Tower.
But when a team of Ruffnecks
invade there are always going to be fire works the final score was an
excellent 1-8 win for the Paraffin Lamp over a
team who I am sure will take points from most of the teams
in the league this season so whoever is next beware a backlash
from the Knights of Craigshill.
Top game of the evening came by way of a real Killer in the shape of Scott Killer Cameron
with an excellent 17 darter.
DOO CLUB FANCIERS HOST THE ALMONDVALE PIRATES
(Mon 10thOct)
Well
the Doo club Fanciers had their feathers ruffled a wee bit last night when the roving band of Pirates
came to pillage
in the shape of Alan Robinsons Almondvale Pirates.
It saw John
Tannock putting the visitors ahead with 2-0 win over Doo club George Bird senior.
This score was soon doubled when
the professional Pheasant Plucker Stevie Duncan himself a man
of Old Deans Village came to the ocky knocking in a very
tasty maximum 180 and claiming a 2-0
win for the Pirates. Up next a man who has layed down his cutlass for the night
and picked up his
grappling irons well arrows really Big Scott Begley took no prisoners in making a damsel in distress
Fiona Laird walk the plank and the score was beginning to look good for the Pirates 3-0 up
and no losses yet!
But the Doo Club Fanciers were now starting to repel boarders
and Davie Smith found himself put to the sword with Derek
Bird winning a cracking match 2-1
to put the Fanciers on the score sheet. Chris Cameron then went toe to toe with the
Counties
man of the match on Saturday last, Graham Borland and once again it saw the Doo Club Fanciers
repel the
advances of yet another Pirate and Graham winning by 2-1 score starting to look good
for the home team again. Derek
Carmichael started well but Stevie (Hume) made few errors in his play
and and the Doo Club were back to an even keel
with the Pirates of Almondvale.
The doubles were now the crucial factor and this is when the captain can’t afford
to make a mistake
that’s why they get paid so much money in the case of the Doo club it is feed for the Pigeons
and if the story
is true the Almondvale captain gets the biscuits with the weevils in for nourishment.
The
first pairing of Stevie Duncan & John Tannock took the first doubles in a close encounter
with Denise and Shree!
Laird who gave the pirates a real fright when they took out the second leg
with a cracking 96 game shot. Chris Cameron
& Davy Smith made the match secure
with Davy taking out an 88 game shot 16 and double 18 twice nice shot there for
shot of the week.
Derek Carmichael & Scott Begley put the points securely in the treasure chest
with a very
hard fought 6 games to 3 victory for the Almondvale Pirates.
PARAFFIN LAMP BRIGAND’S HOME TO THE HARRYSMUIR WARRIORS (Mon 10th Oct)
Well the new boys came to town and did
they not bring the game as well.
The Brigand’s may have thought with the Warriors being a new team and playing
away from home
this might be an easy two points . Well let me tell you theses Ladywell Warriors fight hard
and
with a mixture of youthful exuberance and seasoned warriors out from retirement they will be a handful
for most teams
in the league. The first two chalks on the board went to the Harrysmuir warriors
in the form of Bob Wallace and Shaun
Robertson and at 0-2 down there were beads of sweat starting to appear
on the captain of the Brigand’s brow!
Probably the only time he sweats well theses electrician plumbers
don’t really work for a living do they! (Big
D told me to say that honest!)
Our man from the antipodeans Islands stopped the rot and with a maximum 180 the Outlaw
Colin Kelly
put a point on the board for the home team. Up next the man with probably the fastest feet in the league
maybe even faster than Disco Aitken of the Murray bar fame?
Well Gordon was out of the blocks fast and in very
quick time the score was 2-2 and the game was afoot.
Next up saw the youthful one Old Man Mitchell take to the ocky
just as well he was here without him
the average age of the Brigands would be almost too old to count.
Another
point to the Brigands and at 3-2 it was starting to look good but in a cracking last match it saw
the Warriors just
fail to get the point and Rab Cidre Inglis made it 4-2 to the home team.
Doubles saw once again the fighting spirit
of the Harrysmuir team and Shaun Robertson and Bob Wallace
took the game with Shaun checking a solid 76 game shot.
After that the Brigands rallied and two good wins for the last two pairs saw them walk away with
the points
by the score line of 6-3 and two valuable points.
Some top score from the match were Shaun Robertson nice 76 game shot.
Bob Wallace cracking 17 darter.
Colin Kelly knocking in yet another maximum 180. Gordon THE
Bruce cracking 18 darter.
Old Man Mitchell going out in 17 & 13 darts and when you consider he wasted 4 darts at
a double
it could have been better team captain say’s he must get better before next week!
Bruce
and Mitchell knocked in 20 & 16 dart games and once again 5 wasted darts at a double
stopped these two from
having two really fast games always next time hopefully.
Now I
know there are more shots of note to report from this match and they will follow in due course
captain Tait is sending
me an e-mail on one of his many T-Breaks. (Big D told me honest)
PUNCH TAVERNS TEAM COMPETITION(9thOct)
This
week it saw the mob from up the road those stage coach robbing Highway Men from
the Dovehill Arms in Uphall travel through
to the Royal a public house just opposite the
new Royal hospital in Auld Reekie (Edinburgh for those of no Scottish ancestry
in their bones)
The team of C Robertson. S Robertson. D Nisbet.C Forsyth.J Rooney.J Mitchell.
J Charleston and last
but not least G Thorburn.
Oh and can anyone help out who was the small hirsute guy buying me drink and trying to
lead me astray
as if that was a hard thing to do! Think he lives in a place like Balamory or maybe Wimbledon Common
goes by the name of Penfold! And if you still haven't guessed it's Martin Deegan.
This bunch of arrow throwers
who have nothing better to do with their time on a Sunday when all
good church going men should be sitting at home with
their slippers on. They managed some how
to come away with a 7-4 win no-one actually know's how as they all
did their level best to try
and throw every game away!
And one new thing of interest to come out of it all was
the nick name of (Look at the board Welsh man )
Not that I would ever tell anyone about one of our senior players throwing
for double ten when sitting
on 25 to rip now would I Chris.
Oops I mean nameless one.
Anyway next week will
see the Dovehill at home to play host to the Royal bar dart team
with the overall winner continuing their run in this
Punch pub tram event.
Format is two triples 801. Three pairs 701.Six singles 3x501.
COUNTIES AT THE BREICH CLUB(8thOct)
Well
once again West Lothian were hosts to one of a Scotland's top county sides East Renfrewshire
and though the Ladies
'B' team got us of to a good start with Wins for Michele McLay Lady of the Match award
and Denise Bird
of East Calder to secure a draw and earn a hard faught bonus point.
After that it all went slightly pear shape.
The mens 'B' could only manage one winner in the form of Harthill's Jim Quinn M.O.M.
And for the
ladies we had Breich's very own Karen Whyte claiming the Lady of the match award.
Mens 'A' did not do
much better with only three home winners M.O.M. went to East Calder's
Graham Borland with an excellent +25 dart
average. Other winners came from Whitburn dart maestro
Micky Rice and Old Man Mitchell from Dedridge.
On the positive
side there were games which could have gone either way but once again in this league
you must take your chances when
they are on offer or suffer the consequences.
THE S & G SHOW (7th Oct)
Putting
on a show of big hitting and clinical checking out it saw the combination of
East Calders answer to the Hairy Bikers
Stevie Scott and Polbeth's true blue Kyle Gilmour take the honours
in the Friday night pairs held at the Murray Bar
Polbeth. Having to settle for second place was
a man more used to scoring birdies (dont tell Linda) on the putting green
The one and only
Matt Uriah Heeps. Along with the youthful one from Dedridge otherwise known as Old Man Mitchell.
Stevie and Kyle finished their last two games in an excellent display of top shooting
in 16 and 18 darts very good
stuff indeed.
Few faces missing this week but still a good turn out in this weekly competition
with a few new faces
stepping up to the ockey, word must be spreading.
KNOCKOUT CUP (3rd October)
Have not got
a report in yet but from what I can source the final was a cracker of a match
with the Paraffin Ruffnecks and the Dovehill
Highwaymen giving it their all.
With the match paused on a knifes edge it saw the score after 8 games of superb play
evenly balanced
at 4-4 Unfortunately as in all matches like this there has to be a winner and loser.
So congratulations
to the Dovehill Highwaymen on retaining the K.O.Cup
and commiserations to the Paraffin Lamp Ruffnecks who once again
have started the season of as they
did last year with some fantastic arrow throwing.
I for one look forward
to hearing of their exploits on the ockey once again this year.
Well done to both team captains Colin Robertson of the
Highwaymen and Wullie Jack of the Ruffnecks
who have got their players all fired up this early in the season.
REPORT JUST IN
The Final of the K.O. Cup was a real nip and tuck affair.
Ross the Big Deal Burnside going down to 0-1 to the Dovehill’s
John Big Spender Rooney
(well he is never out the Bookies so I am reliably informed by another creature of
the betting room Dechmonts
very own answer to the Hairy one on the Muppet's Penfold Deegan)
Despite the Big
Deal Ross Burnside being a man on form with an
excellent 21 dart 701 game in the semi finals.
Captain of the Ruffnecks Wullie Jack put the game score back to 1- 1 with a win
over John Skippy Charleston. Grant
Lyle then lost to Davie Nisbet despite Grant hitting a maximum 180.
Jimmy
Machine Gun Quinn levelled the match once again with a win over the Dovhill’s Marshall Colin Robertson.
Ruffneck;s then took the lead with Scott Cameron taking out Chris the Gabby Cabby Forsyth
with an excellent check out of 85.
The Candy Man Sandy Coulter
lost out to an old team mate 0-1 Martin Deegan
with Martin Penfold Deegan hitting a nice maximum 180 during the game.
Doubles were always going to be tight in the atmosphere of a K.O.Cup final.
Ross Burnside and Grant Lyle lost the first pair to the two Johns of the Highwaymen Rooney
and Charleston.
But back came the Paraffin Lamp boys in the shape
of Wullie Jack and Jimmy Quinn
who levelled the match at 4-4 beating Davie Nisbet and Colin Robertson.
Scott Cameron & Sandy Coulter up against Chris Forsyth and Martin Deegan
for the title once again it saw
a cracking match up and with Chris throwing in a maximum 180 at the right time never
a bad time really
is there ? and well the rest is history.
A
cracking cup competition with the winners by the tightest of margins the Dovehill Highway Men.
Gallant runners up The Paraffin Lamp Ruffnecks.
(Thanks again to our resident reporter
and columnist otherwise known as the Gabby Cabby)
DART PLAYERS ON FORM
The league hardly
seems to have got started and all ready there are players staking a claim
to being the men on form and quite simple with
out a doubt the man leading the way
at the moment is one of East Calder's top marksmen Paul
the Ranger Weir who was in scintillating form
going out in 12 fantastic arrows180-41-180-100 game shot
excellent shooting from this top player in the league
Other players making a lot of noise on the ockey in
the maximum 180 stakes are
Big Wullie Jack captain of the Paraffin Lamp Ruffnecks.
From the Murray Bar Strollers
the Quiet Man Brian Mairs dont say a lot
but his darts certainly do the talking for him another maximum to add
to his league tally.
Stephen Hume of East Calder hitting the red lipstick for a nice maximum 180.
Getting
in on the action with some excellent finishing has seen Lorne Mitchell the Younger
the not so good looking one!
finishing
off games with 120 & 94 take outs excellent finishing in anyones book.
Scott Cameron carrying on from where he left
off last season for the Ruffnecks nice 88 take out.
East Calders Graeme Bird finishing a classy 101 kill.
And
one of the few men in the league to be able to claim a 170 finish it has seen John Brett
of the Murray Bar Strollers
taking out a nice 95 game shot.
Players finishing games in under 20 arrows for a dart average of 25 or better are
Deans Village marksman Big Geordie Dryburgh going out in 18 darts.
Davie Cluness of Polbeth also finishing in 18 arrows.Brian
Mairs 19 darter to his credit.
And Alan Wilson otherwise known as ZOKKO going out in 17 darts.
Now there
may be more of you out there with fast games and top checkouts
BUT
if you don't tell me how can I mention
you on the web so please if you have information
Share It Please.
THEY SAY NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS! (26th Sept)
Well folks or should that be hello reader I know there is at least one of you out there!
News is hard to come
by at the moment with only one or two people sending any in via the
electronic airwaves. So if it sounds or should that
be reads like their are only a few few teams that are
mentioned well until the news of your darting exploits reaches
me I can only report what I know is
true (hopefully)Now there is one fact that is true and that is the exploits of a
new rising star of the dart league
this young man is only into his second season and is showing maturity that many of
the players
twice his age only show through experience gained by years of play in league matches.
And
that young man is 21 year old Kyle Gilmour of Polbeth
who is now playing his darts under the watchful eye of one
of the leagues most respected captains
Johh Bruton boss of the Murray Bar Nomad's.
For those with long memories
they will remember John Bruton was captain of a very successful
Lizzie Brice darts team. Who then went on the lead an all conquering Paraffin Lamp Oilers team
to many league victories.
But back
to Kyle who finished his game in great style with an excellent 115 take out via 20-57-38
nice finishing anyones language.Other
players checking out in style on the night were
Rab Inglis of the cider drinker fame showing some of the skills
that made him a deadly opponent
a few years back checking out on a very useful 107 kill.
Now when you mention the
word marvelous what comes to mind first. Well in this scenario
it was the right arm of Marvellous Lee Holland of the
Brigand's who was showing us the way
to check out in style not content with a cracking 101 finish he followed
it up in the next leg
with a classy 90 game shot going the classy/marvellous way Bullseye double top nicely done.
Also in the frame was Colin Hammy Hamilton knocking in a cracking maximum 180 for the Nomads
as did one of his
opponents on the night Old Man Mitchell for the Brigand's.
Mitchell also going out in 18 darts and managing
one better in the doubles with
Rab Inglis and Mitchell finishing in 17 darts.
Lee Holland joined forces with the
Outlaw Colin Kelly who is back from the Antipodean Islands
for the winter darts season finishing off in 20 arrows.
Now a bit of news that may or may not be true awaiting conformation is that East Calder's
CONFIRMED
FASTEST SINGLES GAME OF THE LEAGUE CAMPAIGN SO FAR!
Paul the Ranger Weir
was in scintillating form last
night and knocked in not one but two maximum 180's in one of his games
and went out in a superbly fast 12 darts now
the question is
can anyone better that. We will-wait with baited breath to see but it will take some doing believe
you me.
Super shooting from this man who is a former Champion of Champion of the
West Calder & District
Dart League.
Now congratulations are in order our newest team in the league the Harrysmuir Warriors
claiming their
first ever points in the league with a 5 games to 4 win over the Doo Club Fanciers.
Paraffin Lamp Ruffnecks claimed the
points in a close encounter with
the leagues runners up last season the Murray Bar Strollers a 5 games to 4 win for
big Wullie Jacks Paraffin Lamp Ruffnecks with Bob Smack it in Gob Kinnon taking out a lovely 109 game shot.
McMillan
Highlanders are back to winning ways with a very clinical performance that saw them
take the points with a
8 games to 1 victory over the Murray Bar Young Team.
League champions of last season the Dovehill Highway Men are showing
no mercy
this early in the season and claimed a whitewash over the Stirrup Stane Indians by a score line of
9 games
to 0 in that match.
Murray Bar Nomads went down fighting by the score line of 3-6 to the visiting team
of Stuart
Tait's Paraffin Lamp Brigands.
NOW THIS IS MORE LIKE IT!(26th Sept)
Thanks to I hope a new darts corespondent we have reports coming in from the hill that's
Craigshill of a hard fought match on Monday night I suppose you could say a Derby match even!
The Almondvale Pirates
had to pull out all the stops or should that be doubles to get past their opponents
of the night who were none other
thanJock Stewart's Tower Bar Knights.
5-4 was the result last night in a quite close match with
a few missed chances from both teams.
It started off with John Tannock, Big Scott Begley
(well you could'nt
call him small by any means of the imagination)
and Derek Carmichael winning their singles for the Almondvale Pirates.
Tower Knights then pulled it back to even Steven's at the Interval and with the scores tied at 3-3.
Up
stepped the Tower players Ian 'Salmon' Stewart and the Jacket with the man inside
Micheal Conway
who were up against John Tannock and Chris Cameron so this match went the Tower's way
and so 4-3 to the Knights.
But then Scott Begley and Derek Carmichael went up against the Craigshill Wolverine Rab Scott and the
Devil himself Joe Devlin. The Knights pairing of Rab and Joe claimed the first leg
but the Pirate pairing
of Scott and Derek took the next two legs to-make the match all sqaure and put
the match into overdrive
with it all to play for in the final match up.
Up to the ocky came the final pairs and Davie Smith and and his
partner captain of the Pirates so I believe
Alan Robinson did just enough to get past one of the league regular
big hitters John Grant
and his young partner by the odd leg in three.
So final score in this cliff hanger of a
derby match 5 games to 4 for the Almondvale Pirates.
(Thanks agin to Scott Begley for the information please feel free
to keep sending it in)
Cheers
Jim
TOP PAIRING (23rd Sept)
This weeks installment of the Murray Bar Pairs saw the pairing of local players
Kyle Gilmour and John Brett
of Polbeth. Take the top honours with a final winning match of 3-2
over the young team! of Chris Size and
Old Man Mitchell good final going down the wire
with the final leg going with throw as it should be.
Good turn out
again for this competition with 20 darters putting their name into the hat for the
random pairing of partners if you
ain't in it you cant win it!
OCKEY'S ARE FIXED AND THE ARROWS HAVE BEEN LET LOOSE
Yes the W.C.D.D.L. has started in earnest with the first league games of the season
getting under way last night
(Monday 19th Sept)
First maximums were recorded by Disco Aitken of the Murray Bar Nomads who are once again
under
the tutelage of captain John Buoy Bruton.
Also on the maximum trail was captain of the Paraffin Lamp Brigands Stuart
Tait knocking in a nice 180
and showing his troops how it should be done.
Only games of note reported so far were
two 18 darters recorded by Rab Inglis and Old Man Mitchell.
Sure there will have been more and they will be reported
as soon as I get the information.
Some scores on the doors were
Defending champions winning 7-2 against the Almondvale
Pirates.
Murray Bar Nomads convincing 9-0 win over the Stirrup Stane Cowboys.
Paraffin Lamp Brigands 8-1 win over
the Murray Bar Young Guns.
McMillan Highlanders winning 6-3 over the Paraffin Lamp Ruffnecks.
Murray Bar Strollers
last seasons league runners up winning 8-1 over the newest team
in the league the Harrysmuir Warriors.
Who are under
the combined leadership of Frank Crook and Shaun Robertson well done to these
two players who were instrumentalists
in getting this new team into the league.
RESULTS FROM MURRAY DARTS NIGHTS (2nd & 9th
Sept)
(Remember free entry and £40 to the winning pair with names drawn out the hat to see who partners
who not a bad format for a good
game of arrows on a Friday night and local as well what more could dart players
ask for Well Done the Murray Bar)
9th September saw Disco Aitken the
man with the dancing feet from West Calder and Lorne Mitchell
of Carmondean make it through to the final up against
them were Jamie Fleming of West Calder the man with
the very natty attire of long shorts /short longs! and
Old Man Mitchell of Dedridge final score saw the pairing of
Jamie and the Old Man take the money in a very
high scoring final with Disco and Lorne sitting on a double in
each of the three legs played.
Jamie and the Old
man knocked in 2x15 darters along the way plus a 120 take out.
Friday night of the 2nd September saw a quality
pairing in the teaming up
of two players who have won the West Calder and district league singles 4 times
between
them two apiece. Addiewell's John Kirk and the otherwise known as the Hustler
and Polbeth's very own Hitman Davy
Aitken who won the money with a hard fought victory over
Stevie (the man from the Tax office I can hear the Boo's
now!)from Fauldhouse
and young gun Kyle Gilmour of Polbeth.
WHAT DO THESE TWO PLAYERS HAVE IN COMMON!
Both
Micky Rice from Whitburn and Pete Hastings from Livingston!
Well I do believe that I have in my possession their darts
which
were left in the Dovehill Arms last Saturday after
the Grand Prix.
Don't worry boy's no one has
offered to buy them yet!!!!!!
AITKENS DAY!(28th-August)
Murray Bar singles
competition was all about the family Aitken
wih both Davie senior and Davie the man otherwise known as Disco Dave making
the final.
Cracking game of arrows with the Hit-man Davie Aitken senior just getting the better of
his nephew Disco
Dave Aitken by four games to two.
Maximums on the day were hit by Disco and a young man starting to make a name for himself
on the dartboard Big Chris Size which was Chris's first ever maximum 180 and what a good time to
hit it in the
semi final he did not win that match but will be on the look out for his next one now
the first has been achieved (well
done again).
Top games on the day came from Davie Aitken with a superb 15 darter which was finished in style with
a shanghai on 20's for a lovely 120 take out to put out Mitchell by three games to two in the semi's.
Money
on the day was won by Davie Aitken £50. Disco Aitken £30. Chris Size and Jim Mitchell £10 a piece.
WEST LOTHIAN GRAND PRIX (27th August)
Dovehill
Arms in Uphall was the venue for this month's Grand Prix competition
and with £220.00 up for grabs in prize
money there were some cracking darts players
doing their damnedest to take home the prize money.
Top games came
by way of Chris the Gabby Cabby Forsyth who can think himself unlucky at not
making the last four but some nice throwing
from our resident columnist otherwise known as the
Gabby Cabby and his topical column (View from The Cab) Chris knocking
in 15&16 dart games.
Davie Nisbet a player on form after annexing the Summer League singles last Monday where he
picked up a very useful £250 had to settle for a quarterfinal place on the day
Davie with his flamboyant
bright red trousers and shirt to match
(as one casual observer was over heard to say he looks like a Belushi beacon)
did manage to record 2x 17 dart games.
Whitburns Micky Rice went out in a cracking match to Gordon Bruce only losing
by the tightest
of margins but Micky did have the consolation of recording a maximum 180 in his match.
Paraffin
Lamp Brigand Gordon THE Bruce nice 20 dart game to add to his league table.
Top darts player from Harthill Jimmy Quinn
checking out in style with 102 and two 85 game shots.
Jim the Old Man Mitchell a maximum 180 and a 77 game shot along
with 18 &19 dart games
showing he can still find the odd good game now and then.
James Cumming knocking in
a magical maximum nice 180 from this Bathgate Friday night league player.
Also from the Bathgate hills we had Jimmy MacMillan
on target 17 dart game to add to his
Open check out league table.
Brian Speirs a maximum 180 to add to his maximum
column on the league tables.
But when all said and done their was one man playing exceptionally well he came through
a tough
test of character in his quarter final match but he carried on and recorded on the day
15+16+16+17 dart
games a maximum 180 and a nice 90 take out
to win the title of Grand Prix champion for August.
And with the
points gained has managed
to pull away from the chasing pack for a little while anyway still a long way to go in this
race
to be crowned West Lothian Grand Prix champion for 2011.
But once again let us spare a thought for Old Man
Mitchell who once again well not for the first time
had to settle for second place must be getting used to it
by now 6 times a runner up
but there is always next time is'nt there!!
Prize fund on the day went like
this
Champion Colin Robertson £100. Runner up Jim Mitchell £50.
Semi Finalists Grant Lyle and Jimmy
MacMillan £25 each.
Quarter Finalists Chris Forsyth, Jimmy Quinn, Davie Nisbet,James Cumming each receiving their
entrance fee back £5.
Many thanks to Mr Martin Deegan and Mr Chris Forsyth for running this tournament on
the day
always nice to sit back and relax and let someone else do the hard work
thanks again
Jim
FAMILY AFFAIR AT THE MURRAY BAR DARTS (26th August)
Top local darters were in attendance for the Friday night open draw pairs
and once again a good smattering of
local darts talent was on show with
players from around the area showing up to have a go.
As every one now knows
it is names in the hat and who ever you are picked with is your
doubles partner for the night Lorne and Jim Mitchell
came out as one pairing .
Making their way to the final it also saw West Calder darts ace Jamie Fleming
of the notorious long shorts!
And another player who has a habit of making the finals Blackie the Butcher unfortunately
he and
Jamie had to settle for second place as the Mitchell's just managed to cross the finishing line
first to claim the £40 on offer.
Once again a good night of darts was had by one and all .
Not often you
go into a pub at 6.30pm and their are players
on the board before you when the competition does not start till
8.30 pm and after the comp
is finished they are all bulling up to see who starts the singles and who chalks.
Now
that is a real darts pub and with the young players that are coming through from this
part of West Lothian it can only
be good for the future of the sport.
Cant it?
AIRDRIE OPEN (21st August)
Lot of West Lothian players in attendance at this competition from Polbeth we had Davie Aitken
winning
his first match 3-0 before bowing out 2-3 in the second round nice 15 darter recorded by
the Polbeth Hit-man. John Charleston
from the Dovehill Highway Men had chances but a couple of
stray darts at the doubles in the deciding leg saw John affectionately
known as Skippy
to the world at large go out 2-3.
Colin Robertson of the Dovehill Highway men also started
of well winning his first match by a very
impressive 3-0 but unfortunately he fell at the next hurdle by the same score
and 0-3
saw Colin reduced to supporting the local players still left in.
Young Kyle Gilmour from Polbeth put up
a good performance and considering he is still learning and
learning very fast indeed he just went out to his more expeirienced
oponent by the odd leg in 5
final score 2-3.
Colin Hamilton from West Calder was in fine form early doors and secured
a good 3-1 victory
in his first round match he then fell to Davie Nisbet in the next round by the score line of 1-3
but had the consolation of hitting a nice 18 dart game.
Two of East Calder's top players found the doubles
hard to hit and both Graeme Bird
and Stevie Scott went out 0-3 in their first round matches.
Chris Forsyth our
very own Gabby Cabby was on a roll with 3-1,3-0 wins reaching his board final
before going out in a high scoring
encounter by the score of 1-3 Chris did knock in a 16 darter
and a nice maximum 180 on the day.
In yet another
board final it saw Davie Nisbet coming through his opening games with 3-0,3-1 wins
before going down 2-3 in the final
match Davie recored 180 + 177 in his final game of the day
but was unfortunate not toget through.
Jim Mitchell
otherwise known as the Old Man also made it to the board final with 3-2,3-1 wins
before squandering many chances
at a double to go into the last 16
on the way recording 2 x 16 dart games and an 18 darter.
But a good was had
by all and always nice to speak to old darting comrades in arms
who you may not have seen in while!
UNITED NATIONS NIGHT AT THE MURRAY! (19th August)
Well with so many players in attendance from the local area it may as well have been a U.N. competition.
Players in attendance came from Addiewell, Craigshill, Knightsridge,Dedridge, Polbeth, Fauldhouse,
East Calder and
West Calder.
But after all was aid and done the final game of the night came from Mr 170 John Brett and young
Blackie
the Butcher from Polbeth Up against them in the final was the youthful pairing of Polbeths
young gun Kyle Gilmour and
Old man Mitchell of Dedridge.
Kyle and the Old one secuered the Final with a 3-1 win to take home the beer coupons for
the night £40.00
Good final and good support from the players watching the final.
And nice to see 8 players
staying back in the bar after the competition was over
for a wee game of arrows.
FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE MURRAY (5th August)
Some
terrific shooting from the local dart players the Polbeth Hit-man Davie Aitken was on fire
knocking a magical maximum
and a very tasty 100 check out.
Kyle Gilmour on target with107 finish and finishing on 80 twice with two double twenties
always a sign that a player is on form and full of confidence when the double double's are going in.
Also finishing
in style was Jamie Fleming with a nice 112 check out which though a good check out
was nothing compared to his
fabulous 157 take out now that is checking out in style.
But there has to be a winner and Jamie the Tornado Fleming
and John (Mr170) Brett were the team
coming away with the money this week well played.
Gallant runners up were
Frank Crook from Craigshill and the man with the dancing feet
Disco Dave Aitken from West Calder.
