WEST LOTHIAN GRAND PRIX (Sat 26th-Nov)
The final Grand Prix competition of the season was held in the Dovehill Arms in Uphall.
Confirming his position as the champion Colin the Marshall Robertson once again claimed the
singles title on the day. In the final he played the reemerging player who back in the 1980's was without
a doubt one of the best players around and I am talking about the whole of Scotland here!
yes Davie Nisbet is back and playing well. But on the day the title and the singles played at the
Dovehill belonged to one man the Marshall Colin Robertson.
Some scores from the matches that were played went like this Maximum 180's recorded by
Colin the Outlaw Kelly, Stevie East Calder's answer to the Hairy Bikers Scott,
Davie Nisbet 2x180's.Top games came from Chris the Gabby Cabby Foryth with a 20 darter.
Breichs top dart player Jamie Bishop 2x17 dart games.Gordon THE Bruce nice 16 darter.
Falkirk Posse hitman who goes by the nondeplume of Derek Penn 2x19 dart games.
Davie Nisbet 15+2x17+18+19 dart games. Colin Robertson 15+2x17+4x18+19+20 dart games.
High checkouts came from Davie Nisbet 99 game shot plus two ton finishes of 104+117.
Derek Penn solid 98 game shot. Colin Robertson a cracking 146 game shot when his opponent
Stevie Scott was sitting on double twenty after hitting a nice 134 to set it up but as
Stevie said you can only admire darts like that.
Now thats sportsmanship.

THE MARSHALL REGAINS THE TITLE (Oct 29th)
The Grand Prix competition held at the East Calder Pigeon Club (Doo Club)
was the penultimate Grand Prix of the season and what a cracking game of darts was had by all concerned.
Top players from through out the county of West Lothian were in attendance.
The man who gave me the idea of running this tournament was in attendance
take a bow Brian Speirs.
We had Young Gun Kyle Gilmour from Polbeth a man who has been on a mission just recently in
staking a claim to be without a doubt one of the top scorers in the league and is making steady inroads
into the higher echelon of county dart players.
Talking of county players Shug Rice the county captain was in attendance along with
his brother probably Whitburns top darter Micky Rice. Also in on the action was
Scottish youth international Arran Edwards of Craigshill.
Chris the Gabby Cabby Forsyth a man who like many before him has travelled many miles to take part
in dart competitions through out the northern hemisphere of the globe.
And of course a man who writes our View from the Cab Page a resident corespondant to this
web site and a player who like others I coud mention chases the money tournaments when ever he can.
Now on the day there were some terriffic tussels so I will give you the scores as
I believe to be correct here go'es.
Kyle Gilmour 3-0 Arran Edwards. Colin Kelly 3-2 Derek Bird.Graham Borland 3-0 Stuart Robinson.
Skippy Charleston 3-2 Craig Jack.
Gordon McMillan 3-2 Shug Rice. Colin Robertson 3-0 Tam Laird. Graeme Bird 3-0 Tam Brown.
Jim Mitchell 3-0 Frank Crook. Stevie Scott 3-2 Grant Lyle.
Micky Rice 3-0 Michael McCord. Gordon Bruce 3-0 George Bird Snr. Jamie Bishop 3-2 Brian Speirs.
Kyle Gilmour 3-1 Chris Forsyth. Colin Kelly 3-2 Graham Boreland. Colin Robertson 3-0 Gordon McMillan.
Graeme Bird 3-2 Skippy Charleston. Jim Mitchell 3-0 Stevie Scott.
Quarter finals saw Gordon Bruce come from 2-1 down to take the deciding leg against a very much
inform Micky Rice from Whitburn who did very little wrong!
Kyle Gilmour of Polbeth was firing out big salvo's in taking the scalp of Breich's top darter
Jamie Bishop a former winner of a Grand Prix tournament by the score line of 3-1.
Greame Bird and Old Man Mitchell went to war with games finished in 16-17-20 darts
and a cracking 100 game shot from Greame Birdwhen it was needed most.
But Mitchell some how got through this baptism of fire bY the score of 3-2.
The Marshall Colin Robertson was up against the Outlaw Colin Kelly not much in this game
and it saw the Marshall just do enough to get the handcuffs on the Outlaw
and claim the match by a score line of 3-1.
Semi finals were games of pure class with very little between the four semi finalists.
Colin Robertson went through by three games to two over Old Man Mitchell with the four games played
finished in 17-16-19-17-22! what a long last game!
Gordon THE Bruce had to pull out all his vast experience to get past Kyle Gilmour but without a doubt
Kyle is man who will take some stopping as his confidence grows.
And grow it will quite simply Kyle fears no-one!
The final was a teriffic battle with both players recieving a standing ovation and a tremendous
amount of applause.
Games finished in 20-15-19 for Colin and 17-18 for Gordon fabulous darts and a fitting climax
to the days entertainment.
Break down of prizes was Colin The Marshall Robertson £100. Gordon THE Bruce £50.
Kyle Young Gun Gilmour £20. Old Man Mitchell £20.
Each receiving £5 were Micky Rice.Jamie the Reverend Bishop.Outlaw Colin Kelly. Graeme the Boss Bird.
So with one more Grand Prix tournament to be run at the Dovehill Arms it has already seen the title
go to Colin Robertson. But dart players are proud sportsmen and I do believe there will be a few players
there on the day trying to take his scalp to hang on their trophy shelf.
So hope to see you all there Saturday 26th November Dovehill Arms.
Scores of note from to-days competition are as follows.
Maximums hit by Kyle Gilmour 1x180. Colin Robertson 1x180. Grant Lyle 1x180. Micky Rice 1x180.
Gordon Bruce 1x180.
Top checkouts hit by Colin Kelly 89 finish. Colin Robertson 76 finish.Shug Rice 108 take out.
Jim Mitchell 80 game shot. Graeme Bird 100 take out.
Top games came courtesy of Kyle Gilmour 16-18-18 darters.Jamie Bishop 19 darter.
Graeme Bird 16-17 dart games. Old Man Mitchell 16-16-16-17-19-20-20 darters.
Gordon THE Bruce 17-17-18 darters.
Colin The Marshall Robertson 15-15-16-17-19-19-19-20-20-20 dart games
and that as they say is that. And in the words of a very good old friend of mine
SEE YOU AT THE NEXT COMP!

GRAND PRIX (Sat 17th Sept)
Some superb arrows thrown on the day so I have been told and with no fewer than four
Scottish international players on show.
There were bound to be some excellent match ups.
But when all said and done and the last dart went into the winning double it
was a local man Colin the Marshall Robertson who was picking up the winners first prize.
Once the details get to me I will update with scores and results of the day events.

Friday night saw the Murray competition in full swing with some top players in attendance
but it was the pairing of (Mr 170) otherwise known as John Brett and Lorne (Mitch) Mitchell
who took the plaudits and the winning prize of £40 excellent throwing from these two top local
dart stars.

WEST LOTHIAN GRAND PRIX
The third Grand Prix of the season was held in the Dovehill Arms Uphall on
Saturday 26th June. Unfortunately because of the hated four letter word WORK
I was unable to attend but thanks must go to George Jukebox Thorburn and his
Smurfs for all their hard work in making this competition a success once again.
Topping the bill this month was a man in tremendous form Rab Townsend who picked
up the first prize of £100 I do not believe anyone would begrudge him the title with 4x 180's
to his credit and some absolute top power scoring he won it in style. A gallant r/up was
G Hastings who picked up £50. for his efforts. Losing semi finalists were local dart stars
Gordon THE Bruce from the Paraffin Lamp Brigands & Jim Cummins who plys his darts skills
at the Saltire Highlanders on  friday night who both recieved £25 each.
Also in the money were Quarter finalists Matt the Fairway Heaps. John Robertson a former
champion last Grand Prix tournament. Craig C.A.P.A. Agnew and the infamous one himself
the Outlaw Colin Kelly.
(wonder if the Australians know he is here in Livingston must check with Interpol!
Some statistics for the competition were
Maximum hitters Rab Townsend 4x180 followed by Gordon Bruce with 2x180's.
Ross Burnside. Jim Simpson.Craig Agnew all with one maximum apiece.
Top Checkouts were hit by George Jukebox Thorburn 110. G Hastings 102. Kris Ritchie 104.

There could have been more but can only report on what I am told!
Many thanks again to the Dovehill for helping keep this Grand Prix circuit
working cheers.
REMEMBER NEXT GRAND PRIX WILL BE HELD AT
THE DOO CLUB EAST CALDER LAST SATURDAY IN JULY

GUESS WORK
Th West Lothian Grand Prix was held on Saturday 30th April
venue the Dovehill Arms Uphall.
Unfortunately I was away before the final was played.
Now I have not heard from anyone who was at the event but I do know who won.
Grand Prix Champion for the month of April was none other than our very own man of the cloth
the Reverend Jamie Bishop. Taking runner up position was Colin the Marshall Robertson.
Making it into the semi finals we had Gordon THE Bruce and up and coming player in the shape of
Grant Sugar Boy Lyle who is one of the fast improving players on the west lothian circuit.
On the day considering the amount of other things happening through out the county
we had an excellent turn out of 27 local players. Now I know the standard of darts was exceptionally
high through out the day but unfortunately I am waiting for the information sheets to get to me.
Example Davie Nisbet knocked in 3x180's in his first match and his opponent Wullie Jack I believe had a 15 darter
in this game also.
But to make sure I get the scores on the door right if you have knowledge of fast games etc could you drop me a line
would be very grateful indeed.
I have managed to work out the Grand Prix standings as I hopefully new who had beaten who!
But please check them out and if you notice a mistake (not deliberate) drop me a line either on the web site
guest book or by e-mail (bebadmitchell@blueyonder.co.uk)
Many thanks
Jim
OH will have to check out the next Grand Prix date as I realise there are quite a number of things going on in May
may have to be the week end of the 20th May but will update by Wednesday of this week.

THE BISHOP GIVES HIS BLESSING!
Yes from the far off distant plains of Breich from the far reaches of West Lothian he came.
To the Dove-hill Arms Venue for this months Grand Prix competition.
He not only blessed us with his presence he took the sacrificial offering on offer as well.
The first prize of £100 went into his coffers/hands and well deserved it was to, He did what no one else did?
Jamie the Reverend Bishop hit more doubles than anyone else on the day.
Well played Jamie.
I will update the web site with scores etc when the information reaches me.
On the day I had the chance of a lift back to Dedridge and was very grateful for it thanks to
Stuart Russell for the lift.
(hope he got his better half Andrea picked up on time!)
So as stated when Martin drops the info into me it will be updated.

Saturday 26th March
GROUND HOG DAY!
Yes we had some terrific dart players in attendance-at at this months Grand Prix event.
But showing his class it was the reigning Grand Prix champion Rab Townsend who powered his way
to winning the second competition of the season in style.
Rab did have a few nervous moments when local players certainly gave him a run for his money
Paraffin Lamp Ruffneck player Scott Cameron had a few missed double opportunities but at the end of the day
Rab did what he does best he hits doubles.
Colin Robertson was another man who had many darts at a double but once again
it was Rab that hit the all important ones tight game 3-2 final score inthis one.
Now making the final was another top marksman from Lanarkshire Graham Anderson
who alo made his checking out count with some smashing scoring and doubleing out
through out the day.
Statistics for the day are as follows.
The Stoneyburn Wizard Stuart Russell down from the land that time forgot
(Andrea must have found his passport) knocking in 18 and 20 dart games.
Colin the Marshall Robertson finishing games in 15-16-17-19-19-20-20 darts.
Derk the Poison Penn from the Falkirk Posee knocking in a 17 darter.
From the mighty village of Breich where men are men and sheep are scarce we had
The Reverand himself Jamie Bishop finishing in a cracking 16 darts.
One of the older statesmen of the Falkirk Posse we had Davie Burt showing that being one if not
the oldest player in attendance does not mean you cant throw a good arrow
Davie checking out in not one but 2 x 20 dart games.
Taking a sabbatical from the golf courses of the county Ross the Big Deal Burnside finishing in 19 darts.
Scott the Killer Cameron going out in 18 darts.
Pete (Iwont bore you )Hastings finishing in 19 darts.Young Gun Graham Boreland from the home venue
who plays his darts for the Doo Club Fanciers finishing in 18+19 dart games.
Graham Anderson finishing his fast games in 16-17-18-19 darts.
Rab Townsend going out in 16-17-17-19-19-20 dart games.

Maximum hitters on the day remembering folks
that on this web site any score above 170 finish is classed as a maximum.
For the league tables so all you treble nineteen hitters out there get a fair crack at the scoring.
Derek Penn maximum 180. Gordon THE Bruce 180. Jamie Bishop maximum 180.
From the Bathgate Hills Jimmy Wood maximum 180. Graham Anderson 180.
Scott Cameron of the Ruffnecks magical maximum 180.
Pete (I wont bore you I work for Sky) Hastings maximum 180 plus a cracking 174.

Big finishes on the day went to.
That man they call the (Craigshill Devil) Joe Devlin with a nice 92 take out.
Lanarkshires Graham Anderson with 75-89-120 finishes.
Davie Burt nice 100 game shot. Pete Hastings tremendous 128 finish.
But without a doubt top finish on the day goes to Colin Robertson with a tremendous 154 game shot
 magic stuff.

CHAMPION HITS FORM
Last seasons West Lothian Grand Prix champion Rab Townsend
returned to the first competition
of this season in winning ways.
There were some absolute stunning dart thrown through out the day with the top shot out going to none other
than newly reinstated Scotland International Gary Swan from Lanarkshire with a tremendous 160 game shot.
Other players hitting the big checks came by way of Gordon Bruce with a 131 & 86 take outs to add to his
tally for the season so far. Our very own Gabby Cabby Chris Forsyth was also on target with a 92 check out.
Rab Townsend the defending Grand Prix Champion was hitting the checkouts with a 116-80 game shots.
The Poison Pen otherwise known as Derek Penn from the Falkirk Posse was on target with a 102 finish.
From the Bathgate Hills we had Jimmy McMillan taking out a shanghai on twenties for a nice 120 game shot.
Pete the Norman Hastings nice 75 game shot.
John Two Hands Hanlon was in on the action as well with a nice 100 game shot.
Old Man Mitchell turning back the clock had a 81 -76-76 game shots.

On the maximum trail we had no fewer than eight players recording the nine maximum
180 scores.
Top of the tree was Stuart Tait from the Paraffin Lamp Brigands with 2 x 180 followed by the chasing pack
of Old Man Mitchell from Dedridge. Scott Cameron of the Paraffin Lamp Ruffnecks was also on target.
Joe The Devil Devlin from sunny Craigshill and  Mr M Black a new player to our
Grand Prix tournaments and last but not least
Chris Forsyth from the DoveHill Highway Men along Jim McMillan of Bathagte were also
on target on the red lipstick as was Scottish International Garry Swan.

Fast games were recorded by a multitude of players first of those being
Scott Cameron 17&19 darters. Derek Penn 17&17&20&20 dart games. Pete Hastings an 18 dart leg.
Gordon THE Bruce 17&18 dart games. The Marshall Colin Robertson the 2009 champion was in on
the act with 2x16 dart games. Old Man Mitchell had 16&18&18&20 dart games.
Grant Lyle knocked in very useful 17 darter. Chris Forsyth on target with 16&18 dart games.
Jim McMillan nice 18 dart leg. John Hanlon a 20 darter. Gary Swan 2 x 16 dart games.
Rab Townsend on form with 15&17&17&18&18 darters.
But when all said and done the last eight players standing and
in the money were
 Quarter Finals
R Townsend 3 - 1 G Swan £10.00. C Robertson 3 - 1 J Cumming £10.00. J Mitchell 3 - 0 J Devlin £10.00. D Penn 3-  J Hanlon £10.00
Semi Finals
J Mitchell 3 - 2 D Penn £30.00. R Townsend 3 - 0 C Robertson £30.00
Final
R Townsend £100.00 3 -2 J Mitchell £60.00
So the question has to be asked who if anyone is going to topple the champion from last season
Rab Townsend!
He has made a solid defence of his title and it looks like hard work for the chasing pack
but who knows who will make a charge on his title this season
THE QUESTION HAS TO BE ASKED COULD IT BE YOU!

WEST LOTHIAN GRAND PRIX
Once again for those dart players interested in playing in the monthly competitions
the Grand Prix event will start on
Saturday the 26th February
venue
Paraffin Lamp Livingston
(1.30 toe the ockey)
£5.00 entry on the day £100 first prize guaranteed plus all entries out.
This is the third year that the Grand Prix has been run and I hope to see both regular participants
and dart players who might just fancy a one off competition!
The last two seasons we have had as our champions
Colin Robertson 2009 & Rab Townsend 2010
Every time you win a match you receive 5 points you also receive 5 points each time you enter these competitions.
It is hoped that this year there will be at least 10 and if time allows 12 of these tournaments.
Venues are Paraffin Lamp Livingston. East Calder Pigeon Club. And the Dovehill Arms Uphall.
Once again many thanks to the Sponsors of these events
Diane from the Paraffin Lamp and George from the Doo Club
And lest we forget the man they call Jukebox George Thorburn of the Dovehill.
Each of these events guarantees a first prize of £100 plus entries paid back out
should we manage to get all twelve played this season along with the entries we are
looking at a prize fund of
roughly £3,000.00p
That is with a rough example of thirty players at each venue, Most we have had is 46.
Money is usually paid out to the last 8 players standing at each of the competitions.
But most important of all is the titlethat go'es with this competition
West Lothian Grand Prix Champion 2011
For this you receive a one of embroidered shirt with your name on it and of course
there can be only one winner so it is a one off and it could be yours!
This will go to the dart player with the most points achieved through out the tournaments.
Look forward to seeing you there
Jim

2011 Grand Prix season has started with a bang
36 players took to the ocky for the first competition
of the season.
Some excellent shooting but ground hog day has returned
Rab Townsend started the season where he left of with a yet another
Grand Prix win.
So the question has to be asked where is the challenge going to come from this season!
Could there be a young pretender waiting in the wings.
Lets wait and see!

GRAND PRIX
AT The Paraffin Lamp in Livivingston
A new venue and a cracking one at that a lot of hard work was put in by a lot of people
first of a big thank you to a new sponsor guaranteeing the first prize of £100.00 was Diane the
manageress of the Paraffin Lamp.
And I know the dart players themselves did a lot of work Big Daddy Frank Begley getting the boards
team mate Stuart Tait fixing the lighting and without the backing of the two dart teams in the Paraffin Lamp
the Brigand's and the Roughnecks it would not have happened.
So a big clap on the back to all involved thank-you!
Now down to the serious stuff making a move on the Grand Prix top spot it saw
Rab Townsend in fabulous form lifting the first prize of £100.00
along the way he turned in 14+16+2 17 + 2 X 180'S on the way to the winners enclosure.
A gallant runner up was East Calder's Graham Bird receiving £55.00 and showing excellent form
maximum 180 + a 17 darter. Just like he did in the Summer League which finished a couple
of weeks ago if he continues in this vein of form he could be a good bet for the
Winter Classic League which will start shortly.
Also making the latter stages of the Grand Prix were semi finalists Jim McGeary 15+18+19 dart games
and a fabulopus 145 game shot.
Also back to form saw one of Whitburns favourite sons Mickey Rice playing exceptional darts
knocking in a superb 150 game shot and  a maximum 180 for good measure
along with 17+19 dart games.
Quarter finalists were last Grand Prix's runner up Big Gus Santana from Edinburgh  17 dart game to his credit.
Grant Lyle from Bathgate +Colin Robertson from Uphall  15+18 dart games +92 game shot.
Gordon Bruce from Livingston 14+2x15+19 and 106+125 finishes good shooting there.
Also making headlines was Ross Burnside back from golf duty Ross being one of the county's top golfers!
with 116 game shot and a nice 18 dart game.
John Two Hands Hanlon 20 dart game. The Outlaw Colin Kelly maximum 180 + 15 darter
Colin showing his good form of late is still there hard man to beat these days seems
to be growing in stature every time I see him.
Frank begley on the maximum 180 trail along with Pete Hastings who also knocked in a 17 dart game as well
Pete must be one of the most improved players in the league and with
more match practise would certainly be in the top echelons of the darting fraternity in this area.
Now I hope no one has been missed out if you have been PLEASE let me know
and the relevant league tables will be updated!
Thank you to Frank Begley for the information much appreciated.
When the draw sheet for the day gets back to me I will update the Grand Prix standings
Cheers
Jim
( information only all Grand Prix's have been up-to now best of 5 x 501 this one was changed slightly to 7 x 501
will revert back to original way next time out. Only reason is every match is best of 5 so by making
final the same it is the player who is the better player at that format who usually wins!)

GROUNDHOG DAY

once again have to settle for the runners up spot.

Jim parker on the day recorded 2 x 180 maximums.
Also on the maximum trail were Jim McMillan. John Robertson.
Gordon Bruce. Colin Robertson. John Hanlon.

way of playing sports!

(just to have been there)
That is all I can say what a cracking day of darts at the Grand Prix
competition h
eld at the East Calder club on Saturday the 7th August.

No less than 41 players took part and in the mix there were Scottish Internationals and one of the
World championship players from the Lakeside last year Alan Norris.
With 20 maximum 180’s hit throughout the competition to say there were a few fast games is an
understatement and let’s not forget Craig Jacks magnificent 177 to leave double twenty.
Players from Edinburgh, Falkirk, Airdrie, Whitburn and the far flung places of West Lothian
were in attendance pity the more local players could not attend they missed A cracking darts competition.
Now when all said and done the last four men standing were Gus Santana from Auld Reekie (Edinburgh)
Alec Lister from the Falkirk Posse.
Stuart Russell from the land that time forgot
that’s right folks the gate must have been left open on the way out of Stoneyburn
(where have you been hiding Stuart!) And last but not least our outcast from
the Antipodeans Colin the Outlaw Kelly.
Well some superb shooting from all four players but it was Gus and Alec who went head to head
in the final match of the day with Alec winning by the score line of 3-1
winning legs were 15/20/20 with Gus knocking in a 20 dart game of his own.
Players cracking the maximum barrier were the laidback Jimmy Wood from Bathgate with 5 x 180.

Alan Kerr 115 kill with 50-15-50 tasty take out that one.Derek Penn from the Falkirk Posse 95 game shot.
 Jim McGeary 119 finish.
From Edinburgh we had Ryan Murray who played in the U.K.Open on the television
this year in Bolton going out on a nice 135.
Stuart Russell 112 game shot.

Fast games and there plenty of these.
Ross Burnside 19 darter. Davie Nisbet 16 darts. Alec Lister 14-14-15-17-17-18-20-20-20
